THE CENSORSHIP OF SINA AND TENCENT, CHINA’S MOST “POPULATED” MICRO-BLOGGING SITES

Yes, the more things change, the more they stay the same and China might have an “open door” policy, but it can be slammed shut if the political genie is allowed out along with any naughty political rumours being spread by internet users.

Sina and Tencent toe-ing the Government line, making an about-turn and deleting “harmful rumours” following the sacking of Bo Xilai, the former Chongqing party boss plus the closure of sixteen other sites which had feedback on the same subject, show that Chinese authorities will allow anything to go through- as long as they approve it.

How long before a complete clampdown on the internet in China? We reckon, very soon.

And if any world leader makes another pilgrimage to Beijing with a begging bowl but under the excuse of “demanding Freedom Of Speech”, the Chinese leaders will smile, pose for photos and say, No Thanks.

Again, music companies in.China.and trying to make money through streaming and downloads? Please, stop, you’re killing us!

Hell, it takes almost three months to have the Chinese censors “approve” a record- and which is why, only in China, did the Stones “40 Licks” release only have 36 Licks.

Four “licks” were banned and dropped from the record.

EMI, the band’s music company at the time, never mentioned it to the Stones’ management.
