Our ears are still ringing from the deliriously over the top joie de vivre exuded by the American In Paris reporting on the Prix de le Arc de Triomphe for sports and racing channel RSN. Whew! Meanwhile, after being a tad shy to take an opening on hot favourite Rainier at Flemington yesterday which created a Twitter meltdown for what was not one of his better rides, Hugh Bowman kinda redeemed himself when Winx pulled out all the stops to win the Turnbull.

Everything for a very successful Melbourne Spring Carnival are coming together. It must be of concern to you-know who and his brethren including shock jock Alan Jones. That and if the weather gods will rain on his Everbeast parade next Saturday. The Game Of Thrones continues.
As for Alan Jones, the man has lost the plot. His scarily aggressive bully boy tactics against Louise Herron representing the Sydney Opera House showed someone completely unhinged and an embarrassment to the very event for which he was fighting. His usually equally aggressive mate this time decided to hide behind Jones’ skirt and make soft mewing sounds. Disgusting stuff.

A serial misogynist like Alan Jones suddenly being brought in to be associated with horse racing? Even if it’s this one particular race?Again? Hmmmm. The Very Old Boys Club still has a pulse.
Screaming how the barrier draw projected on the iconic Sydney Opera House will be “broadcast internationally” was ignorant blabbering. No foreign racing jurisdiction is even broadcasting the Everbeast. Alan Jones drags the image of the race even further down the gutter. And that’s hard to do.

A Sunday buffet of pretty ho hum runners with probably five winning chances. Maybe more. Nothing would surprise.

It’s very very tough to get one’s head around the continued support for Pakistan Friend. Perhaps it was that debut win last season with Tommy Berry in the saddle? Perhaps the galloper will eventually live up to expectations. Perhaps he will be another Pakistan Star. And who knows what’s going through the head of the mercurial one this season? Plus will he take to new pilot Karis Teetan?
Time will tell though having seen the new partnership win a recent trial on the dirt, Pakistan Star looks like a totally different horse- far better head carriage, jumped with the field and coasted to win with a certain degree of authority and arrogance.
As for Pakistan Friend, who will risk a baffling $1.60 backing him? He’s started favourite twice this season and has acquitted himself reasonably well without winning, and with no real Wow factor.
Look, he might come out and blitz what are some pretty average conveyances. Or he might be one of them, too. Average.
Definitely one to include in Six Up, but certainly not a one out choice.

This really should be the race where Callan Murray gets off the mark during his latest riding stint in Hong Kong.
With countryman Grant van Niekerk riding his fair share of winners and announcing his arrival to owners and trainers, the well-spoken young South African has been somewhat reduced to playing second and even third fiddle. Here’s hoping that the Danny Shum trained Golden Dash breaks his duck.

Don’t let the overnight odds fool you. This is a very difficult race to figure out. It could even throw up a really rough result.

Like Gai Waterhouse, Tony Cruz likes his horses to lead or else be in the first three at all costs. It goes back to his days as a jockey. Here, with claimer Victor Wong, the Cruz trained King Genki will scoot along. And really should just lead all the way.

The former Tony Vasil trained Lena’s Harmony and now racing in Hong Kong as Harmony Hero made its debut with quite a bit of hype. Has the galloper lived up to the hype and the expensive price tag? Not really.
Richard Gibson is doing the right thing by taking his time with Harmony Hero who many in racing in Melbourne say has enormous potential. We know he does. This might be the season where he finally hits all the right notes.
