A FAREWELL TO LIVE MUSIC AT THE WAREHOUSE

It was the place where many current Hong Kong musicians got their start.

Played their first gig. Met the like-minded people that created a music scene.

It was the house that helped build a foundation for music in Hong Kong today.

For the past 20 years, the teenage club The Warehouse was a focal point for developing young music talent in Hong Kong and helped give rise to Hong Kong’s smaller underground punk and hardcore scenes in the 90s and 00s.

More importantly, it was the venue that fed the youthful exuberance and growing passion for music in many young Hong Kong gig goers like myself.

Sadly, as of next year, The Warehouse is shifting their focus away from art development and consequently, will no longer be offering live music.

Supporters of the Warehouse are giving one last hoorah to the venue, with a free final gig on Dec 17.

I think a slow movie clap is in order for The Warehouse for the years of commitment and contributions towards Hong Kong’s thriving music scene.

Thanks for the years of great music, good times and cherished memories.

You will be missed.
