A GLORIOUS DAY FOR AN EXCEPTIONAL HORSE

It was a Glorious Day, indeed, for those who followed this exceptional John Size-trained galloper.

Sure, the win odds were nothing to write home about but taking it as a banker for the third Double Trio could have paid dividends.

After all, who followed it home were the next two favourites in the race- New Vision and Time After Time.

While these two battled out the minor placings, Douglas Whyte didn’t even flinch on the favourite.

It might not have had a “glorious” start, but Whyte eased it back, gave it time to find its legs and when he pressed the accelerator, well, it was all over red rover.

Despite a hefty rise in the handicaps, Glorious Days won like a $1.4 favourite should.

There was absolutely no time in the running when we thought it would lose.

It won in a canter with Whyte just kidding with his “rivals” and showing he had plenty more horse underneath it.

This is a Group horse. Definitely.

As for all that post-race talk from Trackside’s Clint Hutchison about how New Vision should have finished closer to Glorious Days?

Come on, mate. That’s was talking-through-my-pockets rubbish.

Getting back to John Size, the depth in his stable and the newcomers that have still to really fire will have him moving right away from the pack and win this year’s trainer’s premiership with a leg in the air.

Having just said this, the image of John Size with a leg in the air is quite a chilling thought.

As for the rest of the day, congratulations to Apprentice Keith Yeung who rode his 70th win and which means he has joined the ranks of the senior jockeys.

To emphasize this “glorious day” for him, Yeung brought Wrath Of Fire from almost last to overhaul the David Ferraris-trained Burgundy Mac in Race 9 who looked home and hosed.

It wasn’t a “glorious day” for Ferraris who saw his stable star- Bear Hero- downed by Fionn’s Treasure that was having only its second start in Hong Kong.

Elsewhere, it might have been a “glorious day” for some, but when 60 to 1 shot Five Clubs ridden by Derek Leung won the 1000 metres sprint in Race 8, many hearts sank- and Six Up bets bit the dust.

To his credit, this was Trackside’s Darren “Glorious” Flindell’s Best “Glorious” Longshot of the Day.

Earlier, after a “glorious start” to the day, out came Caspar Fownes’ Blossom Daily and won at around 40s for Vincent CY Ho.

Jeez, we didn’t even know ol’ Cas had a horse in his stable with this name!

Caspar? When did you manage to make this thing blossom???

FASTTRACK

The new way of looking at horse racing

The world of entertainment today is vast, it cannot be defined, it is intertwined and has become one. One cannot, for example, have music without fashion- and vice versa. Rock Stars, supermodels, actors and actresses and sports heroes have formed Mutual Admiration Societies.

On www.fasttrack.hk, you will see Who’s In, Who’s Out, What’s Hot and What’s Not- in Hong Kong and the rest of the world- in English and Chinese. It’s all ballsy stuff that breaks new ground and tells it like it is. The gloves are off.

Fast Track is the authority and driving force to steer you along the edgy road to this new world of entertainment.. Of course, there will be our opinions- off-the-wall, to-the-point and no waffle.

More important to us is what you think. Really think. Agree, disagree, or tell us to take a hike. As long as it’s a hike on the fast track of life, it doesn’t matter.
