While those at the Beer Garden were trying their best to keep cool on a Thursday night that was as hot as a tandoori oven while the races got going at Happy Valley, at Adrenaline, another venue on the racecourse, we watched some interesting things unfold.
It was the first time at the venue for Taran and Sheila. They knew nothing making any bets and so went to the inner-active IBU board that provides all the information one needs.
At the end of the night, they were up way enough to return on Wednesday.
Speaking of which, Adrenaline and Gallery and many other venues are already fully booked for the last racing day of the season.
Getting back to Taran and Sheila and everyone else who stayed behind after the last race, they received a surprise when champion jockey Dougie Whyte showed up to meet a few mates.
Cameras came out and his arrival meant a few Facebook moments.
Earlier that night, the excellent Ben Semmens Band got the crowd so would up, they suddenly had guests from the audience jumping onstage and having their 15 minutes of fame and fun. Yes, Adrenaline Power struck hard.
The good news is that this makeshift band comprising some truly world class players including diminutive female drummer Anna Fan will stay on to perform on the final night of the season.
Perhaps we’re biased, perhaps we’re not, but, to us, Adrenaline is the best club in town with a very good buffet, great service from Isaac, below, at the bar and others. The pity is that it’s only open on race nights.
Perhaps this might change with the venue also open on other days for especially private gigs etc, but for the time being, if you know somehow who can get you in, ask them to invite you to come racing at Adrenaline on Wednesday. You won’t regret it.
