The new way of looking at horse racing

ALL-WEATHER, ALL-BOTHER AND HELENE SPIRIT.

The coming night race meeting takes place on the all-weather track and which usually means an all-bother night for those who study form and statistics.

Usually, any all-weather meeting causes huge reversals of form and where favourites bite the dust and odd choices pop up.

To add to the confusion, an experienced jockey was telling us that an all-weather meeting at night time means a different kind of dirt track from an afternoon meeting which means even more of a headache to find winners. With the Oktoberfest going on, it would be easier finding a winner.

Still, our HKJC racing experts believe that the Caspar Fownes-trained Helene Spirit in Race 8 which raced as Arasin in France has a second to none chance of winning and has Olivier Doleuze aboard who has a very good record on these all-weather races.

Their reasoning is that Helene Spirit came third on the turf track earlier this month and has shown good form in its last eight starts.

However, they caution that winning won’t be easy as the horse faces some stiff competition from three Tony Cruz runners and two runners each from trainers John Size and John Moore.

From what we know, when Tony Cruz enters three runners in the one race, two are running to get down in the weights and one is there with a realistic chance of winning.

Of his three runners, we lean towards the ever-consistent Crown Witness, owned by the same interests as the mighty Silent Witness, and a horse, which if it gets to the front, is extremely hard to run down.It also has regular rider Matthew Chadwick aboard and with the young hoop riding with great confidence.

Helene Spirit? Well, the spirit might be willing but the horse flesh might be weak.
