The new way of looking at horse racing

ANYONE FOR A VOICE WITHOUT THE HAM? @BITCHBACK

Even though I’ve been late to watch “The Voice”, it’s never too late to hear some really good young talent.

Half-Korean, half-Dutch, Dia Frampton is a very good young talent.

I hear she didn’t win, but surely she has a recording deal and surely she will go very far.

The winner was Javier Colon.

No quarrels with that.

Having said this, Dia Frampton, well, she has it all: The songs, The Voice and, as they can never be discarded, ‘the ‘looks.’

Hell, she’s beautiful!

Then again, being Eurasian, that goes without saying.

I should know…

“The Voice” is a Mark Burnett creation and, for some reason, despite his title of “The King of Reality Shows,” I have never really liked his productions.

Maybe I never liked his title.

It SCREAMED out tacky.

Burnett’s productions always seemed to try too hard to be different.

Like “The Voice” and which seems to have gone outta its way to be so different that following it is almost as confusing as watching David Caruso solve a case on “CSI”.

There are teams based on judges. mentors listening to only “The Voices” on swizzle chairs and without them being able to see them.

Then, somewhere along the way, these teams belonging to these mentors are whittled down.

Then, of course, America votes and then the mentors judge, choose and after a while, you have no idea what the hell is happening.

You almost think one of the chairs is going to win.

It’s like “America’s Got Talent” or anything from anywhere in the world that was born outta that property.

What happened to K.I.S.S. – Keep It Simple, Stupid?

Still, from the one show I just watched – a rerun – apart from Dia Frampton – there was another girl whom I thought to be very special: Vicci Martinez.

She performed “Jolene,” one of those old chestnuts and war-horses sung each season by some girl on “Idol” with a yodel in her voice.

And they all sounded the same.

Except this version by Vicci Martinez: It was brilliant.

She turned the song around.

This girl, too, is excellent – at least to these ears.

Before “The Voice,” Simon Cowell’s “X Factor” was only a more bloated version of Simon Fuller’s “Idol” format.

No wonder the latter successfully sued the latter for infringement of copyright and with another lawsuit recently filed against the American version of the show.

So what does this latter version look like?

Well, it’s BIGGER and is like a cross between “America’s Got Talent”, “X Factor” and “American Idol.”

Those are the ‘looks’- the packaging, the hype and the hooks to attract advertisers.

The talent? Eh.

Not as good as the very confusing “The Voice.”

And just a very tired feeling of déjà-vu and hype.

Though “The Voice” might suffer from too many gimmicks, it doesn’t dissolve into a cliché.

The songs are fresh and are not the usual suspects we have heard for the past ten or so years.

They are now songs from Ye Olde “Cowellian” Songbook.

If only The Voice was ONLY about The Voice and without all that ham in the middle of the main course.
