The new way of looking at horse racing

ARE THEY BOTH ULTIMATE WINNERS?

Coming a fighting second to new super-sprinter Go Baby Go is nothing to sneeze at. Nor is it to come out at its next start and destroy a good field of sprinters- but which is exactly what the exciting Ultimate Winners has been able to do. Is this galloper as good as Go Baby Go? Time will tell and it will be no surprise if it has improved and can be eventually taking Go Baby Go on again- and perhaps even beating it.

Ultimate Winners takes it place over the straight 1000 metres at Shatin on Saturday and going on form and fitness, it really does look like the winner despite out-of-form apprentice Alvin Ng taking over from the experienced Jeff Lloyd and the horse drawn barrier 1. All Ng has to is sit on it and steer. But wait: Also entered is that one-time up-and-coming sprinter from the David Ferraris yard- Bear Hero. Much was expected from this sprinter and, perhaps in hindsight, it was too early for the young galloper to make a very bleak trip to Australia and take on a horse the calibre of Sepoy. Everything that could go wrong with the horse went wrong and it was totally pulverized and came out of the run Down Under as if it had gone 15 rounds with Mike Tyson.

David Ferraris has taken his time nursing the horse back and it lines up in the same race as Ultimate Winners- and drawn barrier eight with Neil Callan up. We’d be looking to see how it does and if it is back to its 100% best- but this really should be a race between two very good young horses ridden by two vastly different jockeys.

To us, Ultimate Winners is a very apt name for what could turn out to be two very special horses.
