All the lonely people, where DO they all come from?
Well, there are online dating sites and there are online dating sites and there is now the app called Tinder which has suddenly caught on with many in Hong Kong.
As quite a few friends have discovered- some to their joy!as suddenly, they have a buffet of sexual adventurers on their hands and in their apartments with no strings attached- while others looking for that right one ‘cos they’re still a U2 song and haven’t found who or what you’re looking for, discovering that the “nice, shy, conservative girl who doesn’t drink” is a real raver with a boyfriend and just wanting pure sex with no strings attached.
Yes, Tinder can throw up some wobbly results and ruin any notions of romanticism.
Sure, upload your pic and see who likes you and if you like them and if the both of you two are a “match” and wish to hook up, go ahead.
But if looking to find that special person with whom to have a serious relationship, the odds of Tinder playing Cupid are as slim as Tom Cruise suddenly being straight.
Frankly speaking, having been with male friends in Hong Kong having done the “Thinder thing”, well, it’s quite the shagging hook up app- women with boyfriends or even married, out for a good time to find some new options along with new restaurants and bars and a new friend or friends who can introduce them to a new level of sexual pleasure.
The main market?
Local girls- not the upmarket dragon-i crowd who know how to dress and who are secure in their own skin- but the far more localized variety who can always be found around Soho’s shisha bars with no money, not much in the area of grey matter, and, to be frank, quite sad, lonely, insecure young people with deep-rooted Daddy complexes which leads to looking for Mr Goodbar.
The need for this species to have some sense of belonging is not just overriding- but is all-embracing- and a new option to live that false Facebook life being transferred to Tinder and a host of other online dating sites for all the Eleanor and Alan Rigbys of this faked out, spaced out world.
Where’s the romance gone, people?
Did it all die with a great love song?
Personally, being with people so desperate for sex- and unable to find it- is a fucking sad testament of how fucked our sense of priorities have become.
Leave me out of it- and away from them.
It just drags one to a gutter level and to a dark place you don’t belong and which should be avoided like the plague.
