The new way of looking at horse racing

ARE WE WITNESSING THE END OF HONG KONG?

ARE WE WITNESSING THE END OF HONG KONG 1

Once upon a $1.80 On Lok Yuen box lunch, a $3.50 Dress Circle ticket to take a date to see “Ben Hur” and spend four hours trying to get to third base, but settling for second, and the innocence of forming a band and playing for $50 at tea dances and church youth clubs plus, later on in life, paying 15 percent on tax and living a wilder life than the wolf of Wall Street, made living in Hong Kong more fun than a barrel of monkeys.

ARE WE WITNESSING THE END OF HONG KONG 2

That was the past, and today, well, today, the people of Hong Kong have been made monkeys of from all sides- so many sides where it’s hard to tell who are the guys wearing the white hats. Maybe no one is.

The ongoing case against Rafael Hui, the former government Chief Secretary, pictured below- good grief, one of the most powerful people in the GOVERNMENT- and the obscene amounts of money he is alleged to have made for favours given to co-defendants Thomas and Raymond Kwok, Directors of Sun Hung Kai Properties, from the city’s real estate cartel that has everything and everyone in Hong Kong by the balls, and who have raped and pillaged this place for decades, shows why there is a decided shift in mood in Hong Kong.

If you can’t trust the government, who can you trust? And doesn’t a fish stink from the head down?

If so, where is then Chief Executive Donald Tsang, below with Hui, to help explain how these allegations did or did not happen?

One always knew about the Haves and the Have-Even-Mores, but the genie is now out and it’s all so out there for even the Taipo village idiot to see the huge amounts of corruption that was allowed- allowed, people- to carry on in Hong Kong in EVERY sector of business.

ARE WE WITNESSING THE END OF HONG KONG 6

I don’t and never will understand the reasons for Occupy Central as it comes across as too little, too late and after the dish has run away with the moon plus a belaboured exercise in self-promotion.

But, then again, I have to laugh- with disdain- at some of those grandstanding with their anti-Occupy Hong Kong stance.

ARE WE WITNESSING THE END OF HONG KONG 7

Many know that some of its high profile leaders were skimming from the top for decades when in other jobs.

Now, like Oliver Twist, they still want “Please, sir, more”, as they smell another opportunity to return to the spotlight.

This is by trying to be seen as the voice of reason, but with, as always, a hidden agenda that will win them favours and millions and billions in business deals for their “tireless efforts” to contain this kinda daft and naive Occupy Hong Kong muppet show.

ARE WE WITNESSING THE END OF HONG KONG 8

Why? Just in case it attracts that OTHER secret enemy who would love to see another Tianamen Square incident happen in Hong Kong which will create chaos and bring Hong Kong to its knees, and, like Jesus Christ did in the temple when he drove out the gamblers and the prostitutes, drive out the landlords who keep getting richer by taking from the poor and exposing a government put in place by the puppet masters.

ARE WE WITNESSING THE END OF HONG KONG 9

And through all of this, pro-democracy media mogul Jimmy Lai is- hello?- made to look like the bad guy? It makes no sense and it’s a setup.

ARE WE WITNESSING THE END OF HONG KONG 10

Let’s get a few things straight: As what’s happening these days in Mainland China, retired Communist leaders on their last legs are being dragged out for graft and decades of corruption.

Plead guilty and take the blows and the upside, no doubt being that when they ride off into the sunset, their families will be free to carry on. It will be business as usual.

Is the same modus operandi and stage show taking place in Hong Kong?

All I know is that seeing even those who made vast fortunes through corruption in Hong Kong’s entertainment world making plans to tie up loose ends as they can sense the boom that should have been lowered in the Eighties and Nineties heading their way, looking for “insurance” for their families and their family’s families so all the wealth accumulated stays within their circle, we are seeing a city under siege, in Panic mode, and with no one knowing who to trust, what to believe, and how updating one’s Facebook status is finally seen as being the meaningless, shallow exercise in narcissism it’s always been.

ARE WE WITNESSING THE END OF HONG KONG 11

Out of chaos comes order. Let’s hope so as Hong Kong should not end like this- a frightened, bitter and very sad reminder of the thriving metropolis it once was, and where anyone who worked hard could be anyone they wanted to be.

ARE WE WITNESSING THE END OF HONG KONG 12

Somewhere, the “working hard” part ended up being replaced by those who knew that the streets of Easy Street were paved with gold and made Hong Kong poorer- emotionally- and a city without principles as everyone contributed to this mess.
