Kenny Dalglish’s prudent summer deals may prove vital in deciding whether there is to be top flight European football played at Anfield next season.
Can the The Reds beat Arsenal in the race to finish 4th come the end of the EPL season and to secure that precious last Champions League spot for the English teams?
Liverpool’s last piece of business this summer was the deadline-day deal which brought the 32 year-old Welsh international striker Craig Bellamy back for his second stint at Anfield.
He had previously endured a brief unsuccessful spell at the club in the 2006/07 season under Rafa Benitez.
He was then transferred on to West Ham and subsequently to Manchester City.
Last season he was sent on loan to his home-town club Cardiff.
Now entering the twilight of his career, Bellamy admits he cannot afford to turn down the chance to rejoin Liverpool FC, the club he supported as a boy and with the opportunity to work with his hero – King Kenny.
Sadly, Bellamy is often portrayed as a “bad boy”, a “dressing room virus” and, generally, a villain of the game by the football media in the UK … but we know better.
The media chooses not to cover the positive side of the man – that side beyond his wild temper tantrums, his violent exchanges with fans, his fits of rage on the golf course and his imposing heavily tattooed arms.
Scratch deeper and there is a generous and caring man who devotes a lot of his time and personal resources to charities, in particular to his own foundation for disadvantaged children in Sierra Leone, West Africa.
We are not sure as of yet how Bella will fit into his new team’s formation.
Most likely, he will just be used as an impact sub coming off the bench.
Whatever happens, we just hope this media labelled “bad boy” with the heart of gold has a successful return to Merseyside!
