Brett Prebble returns to Hong Kong and the bulging riding ranks on Wednesday after almost three months in Australia where he didn’t really have any great successes for his main “benefactor” in powerful horse owner Lloyd Williams.
It was also not a successful Spring Carnival for Williams who had six runners in the Melbourne. None even ran a place.
Prebble returns at a time when The Man Joao Moreira is quickly stamping his authority on the Hong Kong racing scene and Zac Purton has a commanding lead in the Jockeys Premiership and is easily seen by many astute judges as the best rider in town.
Add to this list Tye Angland, Olivier Doleuze, Matty Chadwick and Karis Teetan- all very much in-form jockeys with support from various stables- and Brett Prebble will not find things as easy as before.
Having said this, the strong rider who has a solid relationship with trainers Caspar Fownes and David Hall and known for his punishing riding style in a finish will be going all out to get a quick winner on the board.
Jeez, for the first time in over a decade, even Douglas Whyte is facing truly serious competition.
On a lighter note, Prebble is known to be one of the best dressed jockeys around and, perhaps, while going around and around the paddock, he should glance over to the Beer Garden and take in everything going on with the Happy Wednesday Fashion Styles The Valley promotion.
We were there last Wednesday and fashionistas were all around- at the Beer Garden, yes, where a catwalk show from D-mop was going on and also Adrenaline and The Gallery.
Racing- truly competitive racing- fashion, music, beautiful people, the chance to be a millionaire overnight?
What on earth are you waiting for?
See you at Happy Valley on Wednesday.
