It was Saturday and the sixth race at Towoomba was going on in the background while some of us were deciding where we should have dinner when we heard the race caller scream out that a jockey had been “dislost”. A different non word, but pretty good. More importantly, horse and rider were okay...

The Pike Is Right and has made a winning impact in record breaking time with almost everyone scared to leave his rides out of their selections.

Just to confuse Hong Kong racing fans even more with there being an apprentice also named Matthew Chadwick now riding in Victoria, a galloper named Spicy King Prawn led all the way and won at the Sunshine Coast last week. Is the same Mr King Prawn of Hong Kong the owner? No idea. As for the Matty Chadwicks, here they are...

It’s interesting if nothing else. The races throughout Oz yesterday were hit or miss stuff as track conditions came into play and, quite rightly, there were some rather “tender” rides on the soft or heavy tracks. And then came the news that AUS$20,000 had been bet through Tabcorp on something at Eagle Farm called Nassau County to PLACE.
According to “form”, the odds on the Taylor Marshall ridden galloper drifted right out and we never even heard Nassau County mentioned in the call.
Funny that. Even more peculiar was the $20,000 bet on such a nothing race- a maiden for 3 year olds...
Young South African rider Callan Murray, below, has been having the occasional winner since returning to Australia.
But banging in Swankytoff yesterday at over 150-1 at Murray Bridge must have had some gasping for air.
