All kinds of stuff about horse racing, yes, but also other stuff that we find interesting and which maybe you will, too.

The understated power of Bob Peters
When Bob Peters speaks, he always has an audience and people listen. They should. He speaks in a quiet, measured and articulate voice.
After all, why scream when one can whisper?
Apart from his success as a breeder and owner, Mr Peters, 79, is a knowledgable, passionate, highly respected and extremely intelligent and private businessman who gives horse racing the importance and “pedigree” it often lacks.
He makes it much more than “the punt”. A business like his- the Western Australia based Peters Investments, run with wife Sandra- is one of the top five names in horse racing ownership alongside names like Coolmore and Godolphin.
It’s a business that cannot be run by just anyone. And that’s because Bob Peters is not just anyone.
He is very special as are those horses that carry he and his wife’s cerise and white colours.
If horse racing is to have a future, here’s one of the handful of individuals around today who is shaping it for the next generation- by example and with a clever and wry sense of humour that often escapes his interviewers.

Though not a fan of TAB Radio’s duo of “Diggers” and Tim something who sounds like he’s around 14, and their banal chat and the phoney laughter while hosting The Sports Daily, The Clitheroe Kid outdid himself with a callous and disrespectful update when mentioning the passing of the Queen.
We’re not saying that The Clitheroe Kid should have bawled his eyes out and banged his head on the wall, but his utter nonchalance and going straight into all the punting opportunities was awful and made worse - if that’s possible- by playing a jolly little ditty by Michael Buble called- wait for it- “Beautiful Day”.

It was an extremely edutaining interview on TAB Radio last week with a former harness driver in Western Australia who was reminiscing about his most memorable moments in the game.
This led to the story when still driving and him wanting to have his biggest punt on a horse. But with his friend and himself having only $70 in his pocket, someone else in the mix mentioned knowing a jockey riding in Hong Kong at the time- WA’s David Brosnan, below, and who could help.
According to the storyteller, the popular “Brossy”, a top bloke, said he knew someone who could help place the bet- well-known and extremely savvy Hong Hong based professional gambler Andrew Harcourt. The money came in and it absolutely rocked the tote.
Enough said right here and now though there’s much more to all this than something in the distant past.

It’s been quite a muted run in recent weeks in the East for the Wizard of the West- and then he waved his wand again and William Pike produced a ride full of derring do to win on 10-1 shot Pink Ivory at Rosehill on Saturday. The win also killed off many many multis banking on $1.90 race favourite Hameron which could only manage to run third.
As for rumours that Just William has been offered a license to ride in Hong Kong with up and coming hot young trainer Nick Ryan also heading to the city, don’t believe everything you hear. It’s not going to happen.
