We’d been hearing that all was not well with brilliant animator Jamie Hewlett and former Blur front man Damon Albarn.
Somewhere along the way, the talents of both seemed to have hit the rocks- tough to understand as we know both and there was such great camaraderie and creativity.
Then again, Gorillaz, which was one of Albarn’s many side projects, never truly became what many of us thought it would.
Plans to make a 3-D Gorillaz movie with George Lucas never happened.
A line of Gorillaz clothing never happened though bibs and bobs were turned out.
The idea to bring in a full-time designer to focus on a line of Gorillaz merchandising never happened.
The plans to tour China also never happened.
And, we now hear, that the harmony of Hewlett’s visuals and Albarn’s music came to a point where it didn’t see eye to eye.
Both are very creative people, they have very strong views and, we guess, two creative talents working together for any long period of time, is bound to come apart.
Or as Albarn has said about the breakup, “It’s over until we can untie the knot.”
A Blur reunion? Nah.
