It might have been a bit of mild fun around eight years ago. but just how interested are you that Jamie Oliver and Gordon Ramsay will open up their branded restaurants in Hong Kong?

Who can blame you as both are has-beens who’ve lost their brand appeal and, like others who are past it, have turned to Hong Kong- and anywhere in Asia- for a final financial hurrah.
Will Jamie’s Italian make it in Hong Kong? Why would it? How?
They giving away food?
Is it better than the Italian cuisine at Nicholini’s at the Conrad? Or the great home-made cuisine served by our friend Alessandro at Da Domenico?
Surely, the days of stupidly buying into a brand name when it comes to cuisine died with Harry Ramsden?
As for Gordon Ramsay, who, let’s never forget, was the one-time business partner of Alistair Paton, below, he of M1NT ponzi scheme infamy- what can he bring to the table at his Bread Street Kitchen.
Apparently, “British European” food- whatever that means. Sounds like absolute bollocks.
The restaurant business in Hong Kong is overrun by local conmen with expat and Asian front men working the money laundering frauds.
Jamie Oliver and Gordon Ramsay and their local backers will soon realize that these one-time relevant brand names are past their Use By Date and are not the Coco Chanels of cuisine.
Oliver and Ramsay have nothing to lose except for, maybe, their pride. But licensing their names and any possible public appearance fees should compensate for a quick ” Closed for business” sign.
