Or friends at HBO Asia called to let us know that channel will debut the horse-racing-based mini-series called “Luck” in early 2012.
Starring Dustin Hoffman in his first appearance in a television series and Nick Nolte, the series is directed by Michael Mann, the creator of “Miami Vice” and “Deadwood” creator David Milch.
The show centres on the world of horse racing – the owners, gamblers, jockeys and gaming industry players.
The supporting cast includes, Dennis Farina, John Ortiz, Richard Kind, Ian Hart, Kevin Dunn, Ritchie Coster, Jason Gedrick, Jill Hennessy, Tom Payne, Kerry Condon and Hall Of Fame Jockey – Gary Stevens.
Wrote one critic, “The only question that comes with such great artists involved in a project like this is if they can deliver the goods. Hoffman stars as Chester Bernstein, who comes out of prison to enact a possible heist with his former muscle Gus Economou (Farina). Gambling, horse racing, crime – this could be something special.”
Watching the trailer, we reckon it’s a certainty that the series will deliver.

Don’t be surprised if various jockeys, trainers and prominent owners from Hong Kong and Singapore are featured in promotional spots for the series.
Also, that Dustin Hoffman will be in Asia to promote “Luck”.
In fact, we would say this is another sure-bet.
