THE FAST TRACKER READIES HIMSELF TO MEET GARY MOORE AT SHATIN THIS AFTERNOON!
Well, Gary Ng shuffled faster than usual on Wednesday towards the winning enclosure with his head down and it was surprising he even found it as it seemed like years since he last trained a winner.
But, well, he did just that when Alex Lai brought Withinmyheart home at over 30s to blow out all Six Ups which means there’s a jackpot next Wednesday.
The shocking performances of the favorites involved in that race were just too bad to be true and a real lowlight on a somewhat dreary night- race-goers truly miss the presence of The Magic Man- where, to me, with the real highlight being Ben Semmens and his band launching into an excellent version of In The Air Tonight.
Sure, it was great to see The Zac Attack- a refreshed, relaxed and invigorated Zac Attack- ride a lethal double and Caspar Fownes train a double, but, financially for me, a small highlight was the win of Mr Marfach by the So-Hall-Hall-So duo which brought home not only the bacon, but the entire pig when it won race 5.
As I keep saying, when David Hall uses Ben So, he gets the odds and the well-backed good things win like well-backed things should.
On the subject of well-backed runners, good grief, there sure were some “dead ones” at Randwick last Saturday which were as bloated and full of flatulence as listening to Ritchie Callander’s chest pounding proclamations about his $1.70 wins and worshipping at the altar of Chris Waller.
It’s astounding that Callander The Younger, below, is actually paid to be a tipster- and talk so much fucking crap.
As for Hong Kong, today’s racing- again without the presence of Magic Moreira- takes place on the B+2 course in Shatin that should suit front runners so keep this in mind while I’ll take the chance that the brilliant Gerald Mosse shows up and not Le Mosse heading for McDonald’s- three and four wide in search of some pommes de frites- as I’ll be backing the Frenchman in the Jockey Challenge.
Winning chances today look pretty straight forward except for the first few races which I never touch and, perhaps, races 4,9 and 10- if Flame Hero gets by Douglas Whyte having a brain freeze and his recent bouts of inconsistency coming into play.
R1 DANESOUTH/WIN IT/ABLE DRAGON
Possibly a winner for The Zac Attack but in a race where there are around six winning chances.
R2 RAY OF GOLD
Hopefully, Wednesday’s Gerald Mosse who rode a beauty on Gold Edition shows up whereas in that same race, Dougie Whyte rode Brilliant Proposal as if he was thinking where his next Group 1 ride was gonna come from if Akeed Mofeed heads out for stud duties.
The handsome stallion seems so horny that he looks like wanting to hump the winning post than running past it.
R3 KISSMET/TELECOM PRINCE/LET’S GOAL
How “Bus Uncle” Chadwick rides Let’s Goal can be the difference between winning and losing this race.
R4 CIRCUIT FORTUNE
I really like this one and another good winning chance for Monsieur Mosse.
Good Good View, World City and Secret Identity for quinellas and tierces.
R5 NÚMERO UNO
Though having to come off the pace, The Zac Attack should deliver again- but if betting the Six Up, it might be good to add Oscar Miracle, Eternal Gains, Great Pegasus and Champion Ranger as part of a backup plan.
R6 BOYOHBOY/VICTORY HERO/GLORIOUS RYDER
Could be a reasonable boxed quinella or part of a 4×1 quinella place all-up.
R7 KEY WITNESS/STAR OF BOND
Looking at the way it won the last time- like a train- for Mirco Demuro when coming off the pace, Key Witness looks like a very good new horse for my old mate Archie Da Silva.
Having said this- and because of the way it will have to be ridden- I am leaning towards Star Of Bond, which, on this course, could lead all the way for talented young rider Keith Yeung, below, who returns to racing after a lengthy time spent recovering after a fall.
R8 SUPER LIFELINE
Round One of the Hong Kong-Macau Interport and a series that does nothing for me except having some good mates from Fun Town over here for the weekend.
As for this race, the horses from Macau will mean the Charge Of The Light Brigade- except perhaps for the one named Elderly Paradise- which should suit Super Lifeline.
Meanwhile, entertainment is certain to be provided in the parade area by that effusive nutter- Gary Moore- who happily lives in Gary World and someone who is harmless and good fun to have and be around.
R9 GRIMMY/BERLINI/PACKING LLARFYB
Grimmy came agonizingly close to winning recently on a day when many riders took their mounts out wide where the going was better.
Grimmy was beaten that day by Geronimo Meadow which came out and won again, this time at Happy Valley on Wednesday.
Others to include in a very open race are Packing Llarfyb, Marvel Strike, outsider Golden Deer and Berlini which has a very big winning chance.
R10 FLAME HERO/MR GNOCCHI
Though up a class AND 13 points in the ratings, this had some massive bets placed on it the last time it stepped out and spread-eagled a strong field under Joao Moreira and will go close again.
With The Magic Man on the sidelines through a controversial suspension, Dougie Whyte has gone after the ride, got it, but faces very strong opposition from President Lincoln, especially Mr Gnocchi, Kabayan, Travel Brother and, for a minor blowout- Beauty Flame.
I’m reasonably confident we’ll be seeing the real Douglas Whyte who will not let backers of Flame Hero down by dousing any hot fiery bets.
