Peter Ng retires as a trainer at the end of this season and what a stellar season it’s been for this real gentleman- ironically, after all these years- his best-ever season with 32 winners on the board.
It’s surprising to know this when one thinks back to Ng’s association with former champion horse in the grey named Quicken Away and its regular rider Nigel Tiley.

Quicken Away was a brilliant racehorse and was right up there with other Hong Kong equine heroes like Co-Tack and Silver Lining.

As for Peter Ng, he has always been a very low key person- an astute trainer who was known for his shrewd purchases from Ireland.
On Wednesday, Peter Ng sends out four runners with the most interesting being Eastern Promise and to be ridden by its usual pilot Dickie Lui.
Ng has been a big supporter of the young apprentice just as he has of other local riders and expat jockeys who might have a tough time getting off the board in Hong Kong.
As for Eastern Promise, the horse has a very successful winning combination with Dickie Lui and, depending on its barrier draw, should go very close to winning again.
Peter Ng? We doubt he’ll just ride off into the sunset and a retirement and become another Jerry Ng chi-lam.
We are tipping we’ll be seeing him in some role at the HKJC.
