The new way of looking at horse racing

GO YIU GOOD THING!

While he waits for his Sacred Kingdom to take its place on International Day, trainer Ricky Yiu hasn’t exactly been twiddling his thumbs.

His stable has been on fire and he is banging in the winners on a very regular basis.

At the moment, standing third on the Trainers Championship, the Yiu stable has some very smart and in-form horses going around on Sunday.

Looking at the card, apart from the usual horse power from the John Size yard and 1-2 good chances from the stable of Richard Gibson which have caught our eye, Ricky Yiu looks to have some outstanding runners.

He has entered eight runners on Sunday with five of them having won this season.

Among his “Super Eight” are Super Pepper, Matsukaze, Jade Christy, Outdoor Pegasus and Fortune Winner- each having already won this season.

Jade Christy, especially, looks like winning again by drawing the perfect barrier for the 1000 metre sprint race- barrier 14 which is the quickest way home- and with Alex Lai in the saddle.

Fortune Winner with Zac Purton in the saddle looks like his other main chance- if the handicapper hasn’t caught up with the galloper.

Yiu is using- or Yiu-sing- a number of different jockeys for his runners on Sunday including new French whiz kid Mikael Barzalona who will start his one month riding stint in Hong Kong on the weekend.

Barzalona is an exceptional riding talent and we won’t be surprised in the least to see him make it to the winner’s circle.
