He couldn’t have wished for a better start to his Hong Kong riding stint- riding his first winner in the city with his very first ride at Happy Valley Racecourse, a track that’s been the Achilles feel of many jockeys- not excluding the great Joao Moreira.
Harry William Meyrick Bentley, the British rider and multiple champion in Qatar with those fabulous eyebrows, succeeded where many riders have failed aboard that former non-winner Vincy, now trained by Douglas Whyte and who’s seen something in the galloper others hadn’t.

Vincy is certainly no champion, but since moving to Whyte, he’s a different and better galloper than once thought.
Whyte, who rode the idiosyncratic city track better than most when champion Hong Kong jockey, has been guiding Harry Bentley about what it takes to succeed in Hong Kong racing. It’s working. Vincy was given a good, patient winning ride.
Hats off to Harry!
Now, let him- and only him- take credit for this win, ok? No stealing his thunder.
