One of the biggest upsets of this season so far- and there have been far too many to take on the chinny chin chin- was when Amber Sky was rolled at around $1.20 by Vital Flyer.
This loss killed off many who stood the hose out in the Six Ups and other exotic bets. Many are still in shock with that result as they thought that this bet was money in the bank. Pity da fools.
Were there excuses for the loss?
Well, there was some “competitive” riding by Andreas Suborics, below, who was mysteriously dumped as the horse’s regular jockey and who seemed hell-bent on running his former ride with Dougie Whyte in the saddle into the ground- and which he succeed in doing even though by so doing he gave his own ride no chance.
Of course, there is another school of thought that feels that Amber Sky, owned by martial arts Actor, Director and Producer is no star and is only just a better than average sprinter.
Whatever the truth might be- and it is probably both- Amber Sky, this time with Matthew Chadwick replacing Douglas Whyte, takes on the Howard Cheng-ridden Vital Flyer again at Shatin on Sunday over course and distance.
Vital Flyer is also no star, but it’s consistent and is possibly now looking for 1200 to 1400 metres.
But this is no two-horse race as David “Darth Vader” Ferraris, below, bring back his injury-plagued Bear Hero after quite a long absence from the track while it recovered from surgery.
“Darth” is no fool and he would never risk running this horse unless he was 100% certain that it was fit and ready to win.
All in all, a race to watch, keep a close eye on Tally Close and Charles The Great and never take any ridiculously short prices on Amber Sky, or, for that matter, Vital Flyer.
