It’s now become more than a little boring and almost a cunning exercise in self-promotion by an old man wanting one last shot at something approaching global stardom.
Reading another feature the same day on billionaire Cecil Chao and his million dollar bounty to find a straight male to marry his already-married lesbian daughter Gigi- a very intelligent lady- how many more of these non-stories can there be without people chucking them away?- one heard about the old boy’s past conquests, how he keeps in touch with all his conquests, how he keeps in touch with two of the mothers of his three children and his plans to build his own, er, museum. Huh? Who would want to visit this? But never mind, it was all the ramblings of a man possibly hurtling towards senility.
On another page, the billionaire who has always loved self-promotion, talks about this daft idea of “Hollywood” and Sacha Baron Cohen wanting to make a movie about this somewhat sad saga and how “the right actor” must play him. Who? Gary Busey? Donald Trump? Nick Nolte?
Apart from Chow Yun-fat, we cannot think of anyone else. What? Sacha Baron Cohen playing Cecil Chao? Puhleese. The actor is great at disguises but even he would have difficulties trying to look and sound like Chao, someone we met when the Hong Kong media- and, again, the world media- had gone crazy about the lawsuits which flew for a tediously long time following his non-marriage to the equally tedious Terri Holliday, the mother of son Roman, and where the Eurasian beauty- and her Mum- was duped into thinking she had officially married the billionaire. Again, Cecil Chao was all over the newspapers like a rash- and loving every minute of the publicity.
Will there ever be a movie about this weird ménage-a trois? Sure, but it won’t be produced in Hollywood nor, are we betting that it will star Sacha Baron Cohen.
The story would have died a much-needed death by the time the film has been written, cast, produced and released. No, the movie will be a quickie made by an opportunistic film production house from either Hong Kong or Taiwan- we know of six already making this movie- and with Cecil Chao having zero Rights and some unknowns being the cast of fools in what will be described as a farce and which will attract those who wish to see a real life oddity up there on the big screen.
Very sad all around and another story to make Hong Kong look like a sinking Sampan Of Fools.
