The new way of looking at horse racing

Jockey To Watch: Sam Clipperton

Sure, it’s winter in Australia, which has many of the country’s racing pundits telling us not to bother looking at the races as the most of the tracks are on the heavy side, the horses racing are not much good, and that the top jockeys are either taking a break or riding in warmer climates, but few are riding better in Sydney than Sam Clipperton.

We watched him ride at Rosehill on Saturday and came back very impressed with his style and confidence- the confidence has been oozing in recent weeks as the winners have been flowing- when out-riding his fellow jockeys to take out race 3 on the Paul Messara-trained Tarangora in the 2000m race.

Away from the well-known Group 1 winning Aussie jockeys like Hugh Bowman, Nash Rawiller, Damien Oliver, Michael Rodd, Kieran McEvoy, James McDonald, Tommy Berry, Glen Boss and Jimmy Cassidy, those catching our eye have been Jason Collett, Damian Lane, Blake Spriggs Jr, showing his earlier promise, Taylor Marshall, son of former top jockey John Marshall, young whiz kid Chris Caserta, Jamie Mott and former Hong Kong-based Tye Angland who looks headed for great things when the big Spring Carnivals start up.

Of the female jockeys, there’s pinup girl Kyla Nisbet, Katelyn Mallyon and Tegan Harrision, all banging home the winners and matching strides with their male compatriots.
