I must applaud my friend Karki for not suffering fools gladly.
An Indian couple had recently brought an elderly Chinese couple to Karki’s highly popular Guru Indian restaurant in Lower Elgin Street.

After dining- and enjoying the food so much that the hosts asked to takeaway the food left- they posted an unflattering review of the restaurant on one of those foodie sites.
They complained about the papadums being “too soft”, the “tasteless” this and that and how $745 was “too expensive” for a lunch for four.
They might have even complained about the weather and their own miserable lives.

Karki returned serve with a no-nonsense reply ending by telling the whiners that if they want a cheap curry, go to Chungking Mansions and take your health in your own hands in case being struck down by Delhi Belly.

As for Guru, it is an extremely popular restaurant frequented by music executives, the horse racing fraternity and those who don’t wish to have curries floating in oil, or being stuffed by those Indian restaurants using large dollops of ghee- Guru cooks its food in olive oil.
Sure, Guru might not be the typical Indian restaurant in Hong Kong where ordering a Chicken Vindaloo will have you having a bum burner in the loo after five minutes, but it has the best samosas in town, great tandoori prawns and chicken and some dishes from Manchuria that are hidden gastronomical treasures.
Sometimes, these critics just have to criticize for the hell of it and make it part of their lifestyle.
Pity da fools!
