If you haven’t heard it as yet, do listen to a 16-year-old artist named Lorde- real name Ella Yellich-O’Conner- and her song called Royals.
It’s one of the most complete and honest songs I’ve heard in a very long time and it’s great for those tired of fakery, puffery and beats topping the Billboard charts.
Though topping the Billboard charts today doesn’t have the clout it once had and is just something for the CV, it has helped bring the song into mainstream consciousness and, with it, the expected criticism.
This is where America always comes apart at the seams and why there’s a love-hate relationship with the country and its music world. Add politics and bullying to the list.
Lorde has been accused of being “deeply racist” and for “shitting on blacks” and “shitting on hip hop” for a some lines about “gold teeth” and, basically, admonishing the hip hop culture by American feminist blogger Veronica Bayetti Flores.
This criticism for the sake of criticizing reminds me of all the hooting, hollering and carrying on that goes on every hour on Fox News where “the blacks” are always the under-trodden and are never fucking satisfied.
Hell, who runs and owns the American music today? Jay-Z and Beyonce.
If Lorde is taking aim at Chris Brown, good on her- and as a feminist, so should Bayetti Flores.
This over-rated artist more well-known for thuggery and belting then-girlfriend Rihanna- and still having an on-off relationship with this train wreck- has seen his career self-implode and is now a performing seal with the traveling TMZ Circus.
If Lorde is fed up with the materialistic world depicted in almost every hip hop video, she should be- and so should Bayetti Flores who should visit Hong Kong and China and see how her black American brothers behave while conning many young females into thinking that they have the clout to make them stars “back home”.
It’s disgusting and I am happy to “shit on them” every chance I get.
The disrespect and demeaning ways of portraying women in Hip Hop videos, the crass nouveau riche behavior which is boorish at best with the obligatory champagne as sex allegory, “hot cars”, swaggering into a Club and the usual mantra about “bitches” and “hos” have become as fake and tiresome as an episode of Keeping Up With The Kardashians.
I’m betting that Bayetti Flores has never left her US of A and being geographically challenged has no idea how “the other half” live with hip hop posturing been adopted in countries like India, Korea and Greater China- and New Zealand- where there now exist a Yo Yo world of wannabe Rappers who still live with their folks while singing about “the ghetto” bitches, hos and getting “booty.” The “ghetto”? In Asia???
These overnight Rapper “dudes” are as farcical as beatniks and hippies once were and bring squat to music or to life.
It’s another useless fucking American import that should just stay in its own backyard- if it is to stay anywhere.
As for Lorde, with this one song and a simple video that’s obtuse, but allows a viewer Think Time, it hits the right notes at the right time- a time where America cannot seem to outrun the constant stream of clutter from pseudo celebrities so confused to see their worlds suddenly collapse that they have gone into overdrive to try and outrage everyone as nothing else is working.
Also, as we should know by now, there is always that final effort to outrage and from where very few return.

What happens next to Lorde- the name is a tad righteous and cringeworthy- and if created by her Management, it makes me uneasy.
There have been a number of very good talent emerge from New Zealand- and Australia- but, despite one huge hit, the follow up either never happens, is never strong enough, or where original management simply cannot deal with the huge machinery of the American music world.
The other “things” that make me uneasy is someone with Faginesque tendencies like Simon Cowell getting hold of her and turning her into another of his muppets and becoming a bland Miss X Factor-ess.
But now enveloped on a daily update on his ex-girlfriends and upcoming fatherhood and way too much information to keep his name up there on Google Search, he probably has trouble on his mind and the weight of the world on his man titties.
At 16, my sweet Lorde has a long way to go with all the usual traps that trip up talent this young along the way and always needing guidance to take that next step- and the next- and still be relevant when 21.
Let’s just hope she succeeds and that we’re listening to an artist not here for the short run.
