MCDONALD’S AND ITS CLOSET MCFANS IN HONG KONG

THE DARK SIDE OF HONG KONG NIGHT LIFE 1

It’s become an all-too-easy target in the US, especially, but ask many in Hong Kong what they think of what’s behind those Golden Arches and the menu is recited along with elaborate reasons as to why they’re lovin’ it.

While Kentucky Fried Chicken and the good Colonel are stuck with variations of fried chicken- and chicken from China fed on a fish diet which does nothing for its taste- and doesn’t even have a 24-hour delivery service, McDonald’s keeps introducing new menu items, has an extremely popular 24-hour service and, what’s key and a lesson to many “middle class” restaurants, real value pricing.

When one can have two Spicy McChicken Burger Combo Meals for less that $80 and a new menu additions many are raving about comprising spicy chicken, rice and vegetables for less than $40, it doesn’t take an Einstein to realize that it’s all about turnover and making the menu affordable.

Are the menu items healthy? What is today? I’ve seen the kitchens of many vegetarian restaurants and “organic” restaurants in Hong Kong and they are a disgrace.

And when an Indian restaurant here that was awarded a Michelin Star made the news in many Chinese restaurants for “serving” a rat with papadums, well, what more can I say?

Well, I can add that many foodies should make it a point to see how, many “authentic” Chinese restaurants tourists just have to visit, make their world famous dim sum and the hygienic approach to their jobs by the resident chefs.

With some of us having worked on the McDonald’s business when in advertising and even attended that ridiculous Hamburger University in Oakbrook, McDonald’s is no better or no worse than many shee-shee restaurants in Hong Kong selling pretentiousness at blue-chip prices.

We’d have the Filet O’Fish any day, side-step the Chicken McNuggets as we know a tad too much how they’re made and are just glad the franchise got rid of that creepy clown named Ronald McDonald- surely the inspiration for the Joker in Batman.

FASTTRACK

The new way of looking at horse racing

The world of entertainment today is vast, it cannot be defined, it is intertwined and has become one. One cannot, for example, have music without fashion- and vice versa. Rock Stars, supermodels, actors and actresses and sports heroes have formed Mutual Admiration Societies.

On www.fasttrack.hk, you will see Who’s In, Who’s Out, What’s Hot and What’s Not- in Hong Kong and the rest of the world- in English and Chinese. It’s all ballsy stuff that breaks new ground and tells it like it is. The gloves are off.

Fast Track is the authority and driving force to steer you along the edgy road to this new world of entertainment.. Of course, there will be our opinions- off-the-wall, to-the-point and no waffle.

More important to us is what you think. Really think. Agree, disagree, or tell us to take a hike. As long as it’s a hike on the fast track of life, it doesn’t matter.
