Yes, there are those days when we all get it so wrong. And so it was at Peel Fresco last night.
Expecting one of our mates to be playing, we showed up and saw and heard a Filipino quartet with the lead singer playing a totally out of tune guitar that shot pain through our sensitive pitch perfect teeth.
We were going to leave until we ran into one of our favorite Chinese Smurfettes there who was already well and truly smashed. And nicely so.
Then the band switched guitars and on came the BEST band heard in Hong Kong.
Forget paying a silly cover charge to watch Hong Kong’s usual suspects on remote control. It’s fucking boring.
Led by a bloke named Jerry and three truly excellent musicians- I cannot remember their names- this group rocked, rolled and reeled Peel Fresco.

Gone was the polite applause and smattering of ya ya clapping after every tedious solo.
No, people were up on their feet dancing and this band- not a permanent one- was truly excellent as it went from Hendrix to Latino to the Doobies.

Peel Fresco- the new, improved Peel Fresco- has quickly become the place for the best ‘live’ music in town and some of the most interesting people in town- guys with no chips on their shoulders and women with no bullshit coming outta their mouths and asses.
It’s a take-it-as-I-am-vibe and we’ll take it any day of the week over those pretentious la-la Bonnie Gokson type of places and where severely botoxed and liposucked taitais leave the booking of acts to toy boys with more muscles than brains.
Give us Peel Fresco and musicians like we heard last night- and audiences made up of stunners from Belarus.
