First, there was the upset in the Queensland Oak which was won by the Matthew McGillivray-ridden and Gary Newham trained Winning Ways at somewhat over the odds.

Some hours later in the UK, ridden by Seamie Heffernan, Anthony Van Dyck took take out a somewhat anticlimactic Epsom Derby where something had to win, but nothing really stood out despite the desperately close finish.

The big race belonged to Aidan O’Brien- his seventh Derby win- with the master trainer leading in the winner plus some of his other runners filling in third, fourth, fifth and, well, we forget.
There was then some of us taking in the latest matches in the International World Cup cricket and channel surfing late into the early morning and late night for the tennis and football.
Add to all this, there are eleven races at Sha Tin this afternoon plus a simulcast of the Yasuda Kinen starring Almond Eye.

Maybe then have a little nap and see if Persian King will take out the Prix du Jockey Club.
Hopefully, one is still on the positive side of the ledger as a new day dawns and maybe even yawns.
Can there be too much of a good thing? Depends on one’s internal and mental fortitude plus that something called “disposable income”. No money, no honey and all that.
As for Sha Tin this afternoon, will it be another ping pong match between the Zac Attack and the Magic Man? Perhaps. Perhaps not.
All we know is that we’ll take an interest in the racing after sidestepping what look like some booby traps in the first six races. Would hate to lose before even getting started.
