RESTORATION: RESTAURANT OF THE WEEK

THE DARK SIDE OF HONG KONG NIGHT LIFE 1

When there are bookings made two weeks in advance, customers without reservations are turned away, favorite tables are booked way in advance and the catering service is hugely successful, you must be doing something right.

Restoration at 63 Wyndham Street, First Floor, Central is doing all things well and which is why it attracts a well-heeled, hipper and younger crowd not scared to spend instead of trying to nickel and dime their way through a dinner.

Why do they need to as for the price of a dinner one gets excellent and helpful service, an American manageress who is straight-shooting and knows her shit plus a constantly changing menu depending on the freshest ingredients and meats available and where every dish is perfecto.

What I also really appreciate about Restoration is that it doesn’t have the obligatory waitresses and waiters dressed in black, standing at street level and trying to pimp customers into their venues.

That’s just tacky “customer service”, it’s bad for image, a turnoff and a ploy more suitable to those who frequent girlie bars in Wanchai.

We started with three starters- a crabmeat and mango salad, below, fried pork belly and spicy corn cakes.

RESTORATION RESTAURANT OF THE WEEK 5

These set things up for the main courses which we shared- Jack’s Fried Chicken named after Jack, the chef from New Orleans, a T-bone steak, side orders of fries and mashed potatoes and one more dish I can’t remember as I was too busy tucking into the herb-flavored fried chicken and onto our second bottle of Dr. Riggs red.

RESTORATION RESTAURANT OF THE WEEK 6

Oh, and the home-made bread? Delicious as are the selection desserts.

This really is one of my most favorite restaurants and atmosphere for a great dining experience.

FASTTRACK

The new way of looking at horse racing

The world of entertainment today is vast, it cannot be defined, it is intertwined and has become one. One cannot, for example, have music without fashion- and vice versa. Rock Stars, supermodels, actors and actresses and sports heroes have formed Mutual Admiration Societies.

On www.fasttrack.hk, you will see Who’s In, Who’s Out, What’s Hot and What’s Not- in Hong Kong and the rest of the world- in English and Chinese. It’s all ballsy stuff that breaks new ground and tells it like it is. The gloves are off.

Fast Track is the authority and driving force to steer you along the edgy road to this new world of entertainment.. Of course, there will be our opinions- off-the-wall, to-the-point and no waffle.

More important to us is what you think. Really think. Agree, disagree, or tell us to take a hike. As long as it’s a hike on the fast track of life, it doesn’t matter.
