If music and movies and television and fashion and other sports can have Rising Stars, why not horse racing?
Why not indeed, and which is why, starting from October 9th, the HKJC launches this season’s Rising Stars campaign.
Last season, there was phenomenal response to this competition with over 400,000 entries received.
Apart from the vote-driven side of things, it can help both new and seasoned race-goers a reason to focus on a handful of their equine “rising stars” and follow them throughout the season.
So how does this competition work?
The first voting period of this campaign begins this Sunday – October 9, 2011.
Between then and 22 October 2011, one can cast their votes through the HKJC website or iPhone App, and at any Off-Course Betting Branches or during race days at racecourses.
Participants can select up to 10 favourite Rising Stars from a pre-selected list of 64 horses.
This list includes first starters in Hong Kong in the 2010/11 season that have not yet retired, and horses who have yet to make their debuts inHong Kong.
Horses that won any Group race in Hong Kong last season, and ranked as the top 15 Rising Stars from the three voting rounds last season, will be excluded from the nominations.
There is also an “other” category available for voters to select a horse of their preference from outside the selected list.
The names of the 10 horses which receive the highest number of votes will be announced through the Club’s website and iPhone App on Friday, 28 October 2011.
Participants will automatically become part of the Players Challenge**.
The 100 voters whose chosen horses have accumulated the most number of wins will be shown weekly on the website and iPhone App.

All participants will be eligible to enter an SMS Quiz staged during Sha Tin race meetings on 30 October, 20 November and 17 December 2011.
At each race meeting, a question will be shown on the racecourses’ Diamond Vision and video screens plus the Club’s website.
The first participants to give the correct answers via SMS** at 4pm on race days can win prizes including electrical appliances, department store and racecourse dining coupons.
