Handing out eight of the ten winners and seven quinellas made it a Super Sunday at Shatin for me whereas tonight at Happy Valley is like a bad trip.
It’s truly an awful card and on that C+3 greyhound track which usually means leading at all costs and holding onto dear life.
The problem is that many of the natural born boogie leaders are drawn out wide- and where they might stay for the rest of their races.
The other thing is that after a few weeks of pretty small payouts for many exotic bets, this might be the meeting where everything goes belly up and horses without names win.
It’s also interesting to note that Zac Purton doesn’t have any rides in the first two races, which could mean that he wasn’t on one of his relentless treks through the marshes to get aboard any as they were not much good.
Not into times, trackwork, trials etc, all I know is that with Matthew Chadwick suspended, Tony Cruz has gone to bon ami Gerard Mosse for help whereas Umberto Rispoli seems to have taken over many of Karis Teetan’s regular rides.
Teetan is also sidelined with a suspension as are Olivier Doleuze and Joao Moreira and here’s hoping a good time will be had by all.
R1 SERENDIPITY/PILLOWIN/GREAT ALEXANDER A watching brief.
R2 BILLION GAINS/YUAN’S FORTUNE Extremely tough race. Save your money and wander off to the Beer Garden. Just pray that the female blues guitarist from Brisbane is not wailing. Terrible music for a fun venue.
R3 RIDE ON THE FIRE/GOLDEN BAUHINIA/NOBODY BUT YOU/SUPER GOAL ELITE Will take all four in my Six Up and box the four as the first leg of the Double Trio.
R4 SEASONS STAR/SUNNY PEARL/BRILLIANT CHARIOT/CREATIVE UNION A tough leg to everything- the six up, the second leg of the first double trio and the first leg of the triple trio. A bad barrier hurts the chances of Seasons Star, but the galloper goes well for Mosse who will no doubt try to get it to the fence on the dreaded C+3 Course. The race is so tough it hurts and a surprise result won’t, well, surprise.
R5 VERY WELL/ACTIVISM These are the two I like the best as both can run out the 2200m. Include Super Strike and, for a sizable upset, Mobile King.
R6 WINNIE’S HORSE/BRAVE BROTHER/GOOD DIRECTIONS/GLORY HORSIE Everything depends on whether Keith Yeung can get Brave Brother out from barrier 11 and onto the speed. Am unsure he can. It will also be at short odds. Prefer Winnie’s Horse with Mosse up as a banker.
R7 SICHUAN CHARM/GOLDEN HARVEST/TAI SING YEH/NEW DEERFIELD The top chances are again drawn so wide they just might run off a Big Mac, but the winner and even the quinella should come out of these four.
R8 AMBASSADORSHIP/TUDOS CON SUERTO/BACKBENCH BLUES/LUCKY OMENS Backbench Blues to cause an upset for the Benno Yung/Weichong Marwing combination though I have always had a lotta time for Ambassadorship whereas it might be worth taking Mosse for The Jockey Challenge who looks to have a very strong book of rides.

SELECTIONS FROM THE BIG APPLE (@SW064351)
BEST BET Race 7, No. 4 Imperial Champion Was held up for a run when closing fast behind London China Town. Deserves another chance.
SECOND BEST Race 8, No. 4 Ambassadorship Put the writing on the wall two starts back when overcoming a slow tempo to score. Only has to be in that form to win again.
LONGSHOT Race 6, No. 8 Hawthorne Rock hard fit and racing well. Sure to give a bold sight.
