The jailing of police superintendent Titus Wong yesterday for taking kickbacks in return for granting liquor licenses to certain bars and restaurants, enjoying $5,500 bottles of whisky in restaurants without liquor licenses and then showing no remorse in court, should really shake up the police and all those others behind creating thin red tape for so many establishments being constantly bullied about liquor licenses- and sound ordinances.
It’s all a con and Titusgate confirms it.

Obtaining these liquor licenses is all part of bully boy tactics by les gendarmes and MUST be challenged.
NO ONE should just lie down and take it and chant, “Yassir, no, sir, three bags full, sir.” Remember Titus Wong and what I call Titusgate. HE is your case- your evidence. Titusgate could be the best thing to happen to bars and restaurants in Hong Kong.

Also, don’t believe some dodgy lawyer will be a knight in shining armour and come to the rescue- for a price, of course.
The odds are that he is in on the con and fire needs to be fought by fire- and by the owners of these establishments who need to call these bluffs.
There also has to be some commonsense here.
With 7-Elevens opening up in EVERY area where establishments are operating without being granted liquor licenses, the plot thickens and with under-age kids being able to easily purchase alcohol from these outlets, get a cheap high and then walk into a real club and sit there sipping on a coke or sit outside a restaurant smoking from a shisha pipe.
It’s more than odd when a 7-Eleven becomes the most popular “restaurant and bar” in Lan Kwai Fong and Soho- and able to operate without a liquor license where, every weekend, police walk by teens swigging off vodka bottled and cans of beer and standing outside the neighborhood 7-Eleven.
