The new way of looking at horse racing

TEN REASONS NOT TO BOTHER GOING DOWN TO SOHO

THE DARK SIDE OF HONG KONG NIGHT LIFE 1

* When walking past Staunton Bar and having to be careful not to step on any bodies floating on a sea of beer. We call it Yobs Corner.

* The incredibly “warm, friendly and inviting” service of Feather Boa. Sure, it’s a Hong Kong landmark when it comes to bars and serves up a great daiquiri but the morose service, especially reserved to Asians, is a tad colonial.

———————————

The shock of seeing a restaurant or bar where the waiters and waitresses are not wearing uniforms in black or red.

Wanchai is bad enough, but must we be accosted by waiters and waitresses all along Elgin Street with its conga line of empty restaurants who try to pimp you into coming inside. One day, the pimping might include a free suit with your meal.

Running past the still boarded up one-time Liquid Lounge with other superstitious locals yelling, “THE PLACE IS FUCKING HAUNTED! DON’T LET THE GHOSTS GET ME!”

TEN REASONS NOT TO BOTHER GOING DOWN TO SOHO 5

This venue has been the Black Plague to everyone who had a business there. It MUST be exorcised so that Lower Elgin Street stops being Le Rue Morgue of Soho.

TEN REASONS NOT TO BOTHER GOING DOWN TO SOHO 6

Being forcibly hauled into the Akiko Hairdo Bar and having your hair styled.

Despite all the hype and talk about a boom boom grand opening, this hairdo bar does not have what any business needs: Business.

Hell, the only people we see are stylists with nothing to style. Then again, it could just be the curse of Lower Elgin Street.

HOW HAS PEEL STREET REINVENTED ITSELF 7

Finding a new Thai restaurant next to another new Thai restaurant next to another new Thai restaurant. This is not smart, Einstein.

TEN REASONS NOT TO BOTHER GOING DOWN TO SOHO 7

Just go to Tangerine in Peel Street for the best Thai food in Soho- and extremely cost-effective- and forget the others- even Tuk Tuk on Grahame Street.

TEN REASONS NOT TO BOTHER GOING DOWN TO SOHO 8

Walking into Peel Fresco to hear some good musos but instead sitting there getting depressed listening to some band playing the blues and singing about being at dem crossroads with a hootchie cootchie man and goin’ down da highway with your mojo between your wing dang.

HOW HAS PEEL STREET REINVENTED ITSELF 2

Running into jockey Ben So and horse trainer Peter Ho and unable not to scream out, “Hey, it’s SoHo”, good Daquiri, but guess morose service reserved almost exclusively for Asians, must be part of its “charm”.

* Avoiding the waiters and waitresses lined up along Elgin Street and trying to pimp you into coming into totally empty new restaurants.

Guess the new owners didn’t do proper due diligence or it’s all a part of a money laundering scheme.

TEN REASONS NOT TO BOTHER GOING DOWN TO SOHO 11

* Getting the willies walking past what was once Liquid Lounge and seeing it still boarded up with many of the locals running past the place saying that it’s haunted.

We tend to agree. No one who started a business there, ever succeeded in making a quid.

TEN REASONS NOT TO BOTHER GOING DOWN TO SOHO 5

* Walking past the Akiko Hairdo Bar in Lower Elgin Street and knowing that despite the bravado of its Israeli owners and bells and whistles about a “grand opening”, it’s lacking in that something businesses need: Customers.

Hell, they are more “hairdoists” than customers.
