Plenty of rumours swirling around town as to who has had successful tenders to open restaurants or clubs or bars and everything in-between at the old Central Police Station in Old Bailey Street, a heritage building being managed by the Hong Kong Jockey Club and scheduled to open in 2016.
One name said to be confirmed is a Jamie Oliver Italian seafood restaurant along with something new from the ubiquitous Dining Concepts Group whereas there have been stomach rumbles about an authentic dim sum stall, street musicians, a humongous Manchurian restaurant, and an outlet for those g.o.d people- goods of desire.
What’s definitely giving many in close proximity to Old Bailey Street sleepless nights is how the opening of “The Big House” will affect their business. We’re tipping, it will affect them very badly- and that’s putting it mildly.
Amusing in a sad way to hear how those drug dealers from, mainly Gambia, have been arrested and driven outta Lan Kwai Fong. The trumpeting of this remarkable feat that’s been over three years in the making might be true, but let’s stop all the back slapping. Those darned pusher men are still operating from what’s always been their home bases- Cochrane and Pottinger streets where they prey on the late night party animals stumbling up and down the former area and the largely gay market who party hard down the latter area every Friday and Saturday.
As for Lan Kwai Fong, it’s become THE epicentre for taxi drivers who will only take those who wave hundred dollar bills in front of them and their meters covered by dirty cloths, something done under the noses of policemen aimlessly walking around and oblivious to this other menace.
