The Filipino musicians blame the Nepalese, another faction of Hong Kong’s Nepalese community says that some of their brothers are fronts for money launderers from Mainland China, the “gweilo” crowd is thinning, and now, that landmark of the Jaffe Road strip in Wanchai- Spicy Fingers- has been sold and closed for renovations.
What will take its place, no one knows, though word on the street is that the equally popular Dusk Till Dawn club two blocks away, will also come under the hammer.
These strange buyouts which add more fuel to the rumours of rampant money laundering going on in the buying and selling of clubs in Wanchai comes hot on the heels of rumours that a staggering $13 million was paid for part cattle market and part club that is Amazonia that has been the ruin of many a married drunk gweilo.
To add to what could be the script to a Martin Scorsese movie, there have been the very regular police raids in recent weeks of a certain small wine bar in the area where drug deals taking place has been known for years.
With all this open warfare for territorial power and rule, it kinda takes away the fun of going down to the Wanch, doesn’t it?
