Davide “Dado” Pasqualini is a journeyman Italian musician- and one of the most tasteful and inventive percussionists we have seen and heard- whose travels recently brought him to Hong Kong.

And unlike some musicians we know who could have built careers for themselves in this city, but, instead chose to shut themselves off from reality and shot themselves in the foot with a cannon, Davide has gone out and absorbed the culture.
He’s not too precious to get out of any comfort zone he might find himself in.
If there’s a gig happening in town with musicians who actually understand and respect the art form, Davide will be there sitting in and there purely for the pleasure of playing.

Sure, money is important as one needs it to survive, but, as he’s often told us, as long as he has a place to live in Hong Kong, this is where he wants to be despite being able to return to London and life as a musician over there.
What we like about Davide is that, rightly or wrongly, he’s not afraid to ask questions and, as far as Hong Kong is considered, he’s inquisitive enough to know only too well that to appreciate any city, there is a need to explore, absorb the culture, and understand its people.

After all, people make any city and there’s no point being in Hong Kong holed up in an apartment 24/7 and expecting Mother and Father Fortune to come knocking on your door.
Davide has opened the door, gone out with his camera and captured some wonderful images of a city going through change and a Hong Kong that it will always be about its people.

Enjoy the rest of his impressions of a Hong Kong he now calls home.
