The new way of looking at horse racing

THE FAST TRACK AWARDS FOR THE 14/3/2012 HAPPY VALLEY MEETING

………………………………

THE “EINSTEIN” AWARD

HKJC RACE-CALLER BRETT DAVIES

This Award goes for the classic line after Race 1: “I know something won but I’m not sure which one.”

………………………………

THE “GLADIATOR” AWARD

TIM CLARK

For slaying the “emperor” and winning aboard the John Size-trained Emperor Claudius which we had fobbed off as being more of a Trojan horse.

We have to wonder how good “The Hobbit”, trainer and connections thought the horse was as well as it went around at 14s.

………………………………

THE “YIPPIE YAI KAI YAY, MUTHA*CKERS” AWARD

ALL THOSE WHO BACKED HO HO LIFE IN RACE 6 .

The way was way under the odds and had zero chance as it raced like a drunken sailor. Or a drunken Santa.

………………………………

THE “QUELLE SURPRIS” AWARD

JEFF LLOYD WINNING ON CHARLES THE GREAT

Frankly, we didn’t even know the horse was running. We’re sure Olivier Doleuze didn’t either. As the flamboyant Frenchman eased down Mi Savvy, the raging favourite in Race 8, “Steptoe” flew down the outside on over the 20 to 1 shot Charles The Great and killed off anyone winning the 6 Up bonus, killed off many trebles, killed off Little Timmy Clark winning his first Jockey Challenge and just broke many hearts.

………………………………

THE “PARTY SPOLIER” AWARD

JEFF “MARS ATTACKS” LLOYD FOR ALL OF THE ABOVE

………………………………

THE “UNBELIEVABLE” AWARD

ZAC PURTON NOT HAVING A RIDE IN THE HONG KONG DERBY ON SUNDAY.

We hear that the owners of John Moore’s Military Attacks who has six horses in the race was fine about the very much in-form Zac Attack jumping aboard, but the trainer decided to fly in Craig Williams for the ride.

We still want to know with the once-budding relationship between Moore and Damien Oliver and why it suddenly screeched to a half.

………………………………

THE “PLUNGER” AWARD

APPRENTICE BEN TH SO

It has now become the rigeur: Whenever there is a big plunge on a horse, it’s always ridden by Ben TH So.

Remember that $4.9m which went on Berio?

And there were a few more plunges- and all ridden by this apprentice.

Last night his ride- Shiny Day- was backed from 14s to 5- and led all the way.

………………………………

THE “AND THE DISH RAN AWAY WITH THE SP0ON” AWARD

The former Singapore-based jockey who suddenly left the place- and with the wife of an Aussie jockey also riding there.

Once riding in Hong Kong, we are quite amazed at his pulling power as he is certainly no oil painting and is as old as Methuselah.
