HIT THE JACKPOT!
Correctly pick the three horses to come first, second and third- in any order- in races 4,5 and 6 at Happy Valley tonight, and, well, the world’s your oyster with a cherry- and pearl- on top. Why?
It means capturing the bet known as the Triple Trio and where it is estimated there’ll be a payout of OVER 50 MILLION big ones.
In fact, there are other million dollar jackpots to be won by grabbing the other exotic bets known as the first Double Trio and the Six Up.
THE FAST TRACKER ON THE INSIDE TRACK
Lady GaiGai Waterhouse’s Swift Shadow runs in Race 6 and though the First Lady of Australian racing is an astute trainer and the horse is now with the equally astute John Size, to me, this is an extremely inconsistent galloper.
In Sydney, it had a number of different jockeys on it, but was tough to back and so connections were happy to get rid of it.
Racing here in Class 3 after being sold to Oliver Wong, Swift Shadow hasn’t raced since 2011 and I can’t see it going further than the bottom of Class 2.
An extremely strange purchase and worth around $500,000 – max.
Elsewhere, it’s surprising to see Dougie Whyte not have a full book of rides- he doesn’t even ride Swift Shadow which is telling- and though arch-rival Zac Purton has some strong winning chances, they will be very short in the market.
If shopping for value- and with all these various jackpots ricocheting off walls along with crackpots, there is always a fly- or even flies- in the ointment- I’d look at horses like Home With Glory, Euro Swiftly and Beauty King (r5).
In the last race and if calling on the Six Up, consider Bullish Boy together with Grand Elite and Horse Aplenty which just might give Irishman Colm O’Donaghue, below, his first win in Hong Kong.
May The Force of the leprechauns be with him.
THE BALLAD OF OLLIE AND GIBBO
They are the silent achievers of Hong Kong racing without the high profiles of Teams Douglas Whyte and John Size, Zac Purton and Dennis Yip and Matthew Chadwick, but the partnership of jockey Olivier Doleuze and trainer Richard Gibson is a formidable one- quelle formidable, mes amis!
When revved up, the flamboyant and likable Doleuze, a martial arts expert, and affectionately known as Ollie by his many fans, is an extremely effective and strong rider as seen by his recent win on Hurry Hurry Up for bon ami Caspar Fownes.
Certainment, he has had a, well, colorful career as a rider in France, Macau, Hong Kong, back to Macau and then welcomed back to Hong Kong, the team of Ollie and Gibbo looked all set to have a glorious Sunday until Typhoon Usagi decided to rain on their parade.
However, this was a minor blip in the grand scheme of things, and watch for this Gaellic partnership to make a big winning impact soon, especially with the stayer Mizani.

SELECTIONS FROM THE BIG APPLE (@SW064351)
BEST BET Race 7, No. 1 Beauty Sparkle Ran smartly to prevail over London China Town two weeks ago despite Chadwick dropping a rein. Was not fully tested is the one to beat again.
SECOND BEST Race 8, No. 9 Bullish Boy Kept on well to just miss last time after setting a blistering tempo early. Gets a softer run here and will take plenty of catching.
LONGSHOT Race 6, No. 4 Royal Partner With the pace influences all drawn wide and his ability to reel off fast final sectionals, can storm over the top late.
