Race 1
There are some first starters here that have been working well, and though they’ll be needing further in time, this 1000 meter race seems the perfect pipe opener. The Tony Cruz-trained and Matty Chadwick-ridden Multimax appeals with Blizzard to blow them away like Miley Cyrus.
SELECTIONS: 4-6-12-8
Race 2
One of those horror races where horses once in form are now outta form, regular jockeys for various rides have jumped ship and Andrea Atzeni riding two pounds over for, good gawd, catching the eye. Why? But leave it out at your peril- and also watch out for Precious Gem with regular Gary Ng jockey deserting his old partner to ride this one for Michael Chang.
For me, Olivier Doleuze riding Paul O’Sullivan’s La Cote De Bleu is an interesting jockey change.
Though its last two runs have been disappointing, perhaps La Cote De Bleu has been waiting for a rider who can parlez le Francais?
SELECTIONS: 11-2-14-5
Race 3
The first of those shocking all-dirt races which always look so damn cheap and nasty, but one must take the good with the bad and the ugly.
SELECTIONS: 12-2-1-3
Race 4
Brett Prebble may not be getting the stable support he once had, but he is riding bloody well with whatever scraps are thrown his way. His winning ride on Wednesday aboard Happy Rocky was a classic.
Here, Prebble rides Demokles and despite carrying topweight should be the banker. Finding the legs is a bitch.
SELECTIONS: 1-7-5-12
Race 5
Though Christian Reith has finally got smart and asked for an early exit from here where the poor guy was getting practically zero support, here’s hoping Nash Rawiller hits his straps and is seen as the good jockey he is. Amongst the Aussie jockeys, he’s no Hughie Bowman or Zac Purton, but who is? With some strong support from those two Johns- Moore and Size and Size Moore, we just might be seeing The Gnasher in winning photos and not reading about another suspension in the Stipes Report. Hope so- and he should win this on Size’s last start winner Contenment.
SELECTIONS: 1-12-9-3
Race 6
After his quartet of winners on Wednesday, The Zac Attack is so hot, wife Nicole asks him to sleep in another room. Here, he’s back on Good Good View and if it’s ever going to win this season it’s here with The Zac Man aboard for Team Purton.
SELECTIONS: 8-11-6-1
Race 7
Looks like a two-horse race- Lucky Celebrity and Country Melody with Prebble against The Mauritian Magician and good bloke Karis Teetan whose strike rate is on an upward spiral with another winning ride on Wednesday.
Having said this, there are danger signs at big odds everywhere.
SELECTIONS: 6-11-8-14
Race 8
For a dirt race, there are some decent gallopers competing in this Cup race and where I lean towards the Moore-Rawiller combination in Pablosky with Zacman breathing down his neck on Great Sky.
SELECTIONS: 3-2-9-7
RACE 9
Gun Pit has fired blanks at its last two starts on the turf, this looks like something special on the dirt surface.
SELECTIONS: 6-1-5-3
Race 10
High And Mighty should win this- on paper- but if there’s a late surge of money for Hong Kong Dancer with plunge jockey Ben So aboard, follow the money trail. Tongues are wagging about this one and how there WILL be a massive Quartet payout.
