THE FAST TRACKER TURNS TO THE MAURITIAN MAGICIAN
Race 1
A Class 5 race and on the dirt??? No thanks. The only one who might be interested in a quinella place bet would be our Italian friend Alessandro of Da Domenico fame where the pasta with garlic clams always hit the spot. But with SOOOOOO much talk of Jimmy’s Kitchen menu these days and lunch meetings between Able Friends, the thought of the restaurant’s legendary Madras Prawn and Chicken Curry is mighty tempting.
SELECTIONS: 12-2-3-4
Race 2
If Timely Arrived had drawn an outside barrier, always the faster way home over the Shatin 1000 metres, I’d have it on top, but, again, it’s drawn the inside with Neil Callan taking over from the suspended Brett Prebble. Outside barrier or not, it has the speed to get across and be slightly off the pace with the one to beat looking like being Massive Move with the very much in-form Umberto Rispoli aboard and who just might be in Hong Kong, full-time, next season.
QUARTET SELECTIONS (4,6)-8-9-12-13
Race 3
A shocker of a race in dire need of an exorcism.
If Rosemary’s Baby has been forced outta you and you’re wearing garlic around your neck, have something on Fire Starter and have a punt at a National Lampoon European Quinella led by young guns in the French Guyon and Italian Rispoli.
Friends in WA who might still be following Hard Ball Get which once raced down that way and was, supposedly, quite good, forget it. Despite racing down a class and with Dougie Whyte riding it for the first time, you’d have lost your balls by now backing this.
SELECTIONS: 11-10-4-7
Race 4
A dirt race to start the Triple Trio with the odds being that those who programme these races looking to ensure a jackpot builds up for the Chinese New Year meeting and where we welcome in The Year Of The Goat. Though hardly exuding the confidence of Amigo Brett Davies last Wednesday about his choices in race 4- they bit the dust- I’ll give this race a crack by banking on Karis Teetan, below.
Not to say that the others don’t try, but one can always depend on Teetan to give 100 percent for all his rides ‘cos that’s just how he rolls. Here, he has an outstanding chance of riding a winner for Tony Millard aboard Horse Supremo, which the young Mauritian with the cheekbones that make women weak in the knees, came second on to Kingston Jumbo over course and distance by being bang on the pace.
SELECTIONS: 9-11
Race 5
With him just getting over his back problems, Zac Purton is not going to be a silly boy and stretch himself on no-hopers. I’ll not be putting myself out and looking outside of Supreme Flight which he rides for the first time for trainer Danny Shum, taking over the ride from Mirco Demuro-san.
QUARTET SELECTIONS: (3)-13-4-6-5-10
Race 6
With no idea what’s going on between Matthew Chadwick and his association with the Tony Cruz yard where rides for him seem to have dried up, he has a decent chance to get on a winner here aboard Hit The Bid for Tony Millard.
The galloper might be bred to handle the dirt though it’s never raced over this surface. But with a voluntary promotion and its lightweight plus Chadwick’s hunger to make the most of every opportunity and avoid being another forgotten local rider, take him and his ride as a banker.
QUARTET SELECTIONS: (12-9)-7-1-4
Race 7
Eroico SHOULD win this for the Size-Price-Moreira though it’s not been done any favours with a barrier draw of ten over this 1200 metres race. But what’s there to beat it- other than the barrier? But magic has no barriers. Barriers are just an illusion for the Magic Man.
SELECTIONS: 5-4-2-9
Race 8
He’ll find it difficult to beat all those like Designs On Rome, California Memory etc, but with these greats being past their prime, I’ll go for that man Karis Teetan again on the lightly weighed Khaya.
SELECTIONS: (8)-7-2-3-11
Race 9
I’ll just be sticking with every horse Zac Purton has decided to ride, and here, he’s on topweight Ishvara and that’s good enough for me.
SELECTIONS: 1-11-3-2
Race 10
It’s hard not to look past Pikachu. Though the Neil “Donkey” Callan knows the David Ferraris-trained galloper inside out, Maxime Guyon should be a more than capable replacement- guess “Donkey” couldn’t make the weight- to get this one home without it becoming a lemon like Navel Orange turned out to be on Wednesday.
