Gerard Mosse and Weichong Marwing woke up and were at their brilliant best,Tony Cruz celebrated his birthday early by training a double, John Moore went one better and trained the last three races on the card and Dougie Whyte drew a blank despite what looked like a book of rides which Santa had stuffed into his Christmas stocking.
Mercifully, I was sleeping off a bad hangover ‘cos if not, I would have done my hard earned and also done my head in by following the Durban Turban who is having a very up and down season and no longer the punter’s pal. If anything, he has become the poisoned chalice to punters who look to an exorcist for help.
As for Mosse and Marwing, these M&Ms have had very average seasons and with rides almost looking tired and lazy, but redeemed themselves with punters by being at their very best.
As he proved with his incredible ride on Red Cadeaux on International Day, when in the mood and in the zone, the French coxman and swordsman is peerless.
On Saturday, he was back in the zone and not complaining that he was riding “goats” as he won for old friend Tony Cruz on Chancellor and then took out the last with a rare ride for John Moore on Flash Knight.
Earlier, Moore won another trophy race, this time the Yan Chai 45th Anniversary, with first-starter Flagship Shine and ridden by Neil Callan.
The odds-on favorite- Cruzy’s Season Start and ridden by Whyte, went down like the Zeppelin.
Moore struck again in the next when Same World, ridden by Marwing.
With him using now Callan quite a bit and, of course, Brett Prebble, who was not riding on Saturday, and turning to Mosse and Marwing, one has to wonder if Little Timmy Clark is the latest in a long line of jockeys to lose Moore’s support. The moment, The Hobbit was taken off Dan Excel, Quasimodo was ringing dem bells while the Fat Lady sang, “It’s Over.”
The jockey roundabout is becoming very interesting with some new names being bandied about as dearly wanting a chance to ride out here.
So, while we watch the huge improvement Matty Chadwick has made and the support he is receiving. wait for someone to give Tom Quealy a decent winning ride while seeing one shocker of a ride in race 6 on Wednesday where the jock’s fine motoring skills were sorely lacking around the Mercedes bend and with every jockey needing winning rides to survive and good “PR”, the next few weeks are going to prove very interesting as to who has the staying power.
In the meantime, remember that next week’s Happy Wednesday is actually Happy Friday and a great time will be had by all and we all make a bonfire outta the Mayan Calendar and their predicted Doomsday. Hell, the way this world is going, every day is a doomsday. And on that happy note, birdie num num from the Guru.
