KUNG HEI FAT CHOY! READY TO MONKEY AROUND?
This Happy Wednesday and the Happy Wednesday on the 17th- racing next Wednesday is at Shatin- Happy Valley Racecourse will be busy welcoming in the new Lunar New Year- and the Year of the Monkey. There’ll be plenty of monkeying around- but no monkey business, ok- with traditional lion dancers, the beating of many drums and gongs, competitions with plenty of golden laisee prizes to be won, ‘live’ music from MORE-ira featuring Rita Tao at the Beer Garden, the brilliant Jennifer Palor Band at the upmarket club Adrenaline, and, of course, some of the best racing in the world featuring a true United Nations Of Jockeys- Brazilians Joao Moreira and Silvestre de Sousa, Aussies Zac Purton and Brett Prebble, Englishman Ryan Moore, Irishman Neil Callan, South Africans Douglas Whyte and Richard Fourie, Frenchman Gerald Mosse, Mauritian Karis Teetan, and talented local riders Vincent CY Ho, Derek Leung and Keith Yeung.
Other than the blend of local and international Happy Wednesday regulars, expect to see a number of tourists dropping in to join in the festivities and see, first hand, everything that goes into making a Happy Wednesday at Happy Valley Racecourse a Happy Wednesday.

RITA THAO: GOING PLACES…
Though still relatively new to the Hong Kong music scene, singer-songwriter Rita Thao, who fronts the new band MORE-ira at the Beer Garden, looks like going places- and fast.
The attractive young Eurasian with an impeccable fashion sense, has caught the eye of two very big names in the global entertainment world since becoming a Happy Wednesday regular.
Being discussed is everything from original material being written specifically for Rita by some of the most in-demand songwriters, and a guest slot on one of America’s most popular television music series. Watch this space for further news.

AND THE MOST POPULAR HAPPY WEDNESDAY FASHIONISTAS ARE…
The votes are in, all the comments by the online Fashion Police have been taken on board, and below are the joint winners of the HappyWednesday Fashionistas Competition. Seems as if trying to find “the best Fashionista” is very much something that’s in the eye of the beholder with everyone having their personal favourite. And that’s cool.

We’ll be in touch with all winners regarding their prizes, and watch this space for news about the upcoming Trendsetters And Fashionistas project- a competition that’s not really a competition, but more of a project to appeal to the creative person in each of us.

ZAC PURTON: TRENDSETTER?
Though the Happy Wednesday Fashionistas Competition has drawn to a close, a new trendsetter has emerged- an accidental trendsetter: Jockey Zac Purton.
Known for his absolute dislike for cold weather, the popular Zac Attack rode at a particularly chilly Shatin two weekends ago with his face covered up by a thick black scarf. Who was that masked man? It wasn’t the Lone Ranger. It was Zac, who probably scared his rivals away.
Hot or cold and despite being in such discomfort- he nearly called time out after race two- Zac went onto ride a brilliant treble, and also win the day’s Jockey Challenge. The red hot favourite to win the Jockey Challenge that day was Joao Moreira, who also succumbed to the cold spell, and, hard as it might be to believe, failed to ride a winner.
Word has it that the Brazilian Magic Man was so cold, he couldn’t wait for the last race to end so he could soak his feet in a basin of boiling hot water- with his boots on.
Apart from riding a treble, much talk over the past week has centred around the masked Zac Purton, and what has been dubbed him wearing a Zacalava.
Could this become a new fashion trend in Hong Kong? Will we see Zac wearing a Zacalava even after the winter months? Time will tell. If you have any designs for the Zacalava, let us know.

WHO’S BEEN INDUCTED INTO THE HANDSOME JOCKEYS CLUB…
It’s probably the most exclusive Club to get into. There are a number of hoops to jump through with referrals and votes being hugely important before one is accepted.
No, we’re not talking about becoming a Member of the HKJC. We’re talking about all the dramas and diamonds and tiaras- and the need for well-chiseled good looks- needed before being inducted into the Fast Track Handsome Jockeys Club.
Now in its second year, the results were recently announced- and immediately, there was plenty of clamouring for additions to the original list- a list that included Joao Moreira, Silvestre de Sousa, Frankie Dettori and a very select group of other Handsome Jockeys. Click the link below for more information.
Joao Moreira
Sylvestre de Souza
Frankie Dettori
By popular demand, more Handsome Jockeys- Douglas Whyte for one- have been inducted. And while votes are being tabulated for the Attractive Female Jockeys Club, feel free to submit your candidates for both Clubs by writing to info@fasttrack.hk.

WRITE A CAPTION FOR THIS AND WIN A DINNER FOR TWO AT ADRENALINE…
Above is Hong Kong’s most popular Rock Guitarzan- Jay, who’s the main man behind the resident band at the Beer Garden- MORE-ira. The photograph was taken on the weekend at a music festival at Discovery Bay.
That’s all well and good, but what on earth is he doing in the photograph at the top? Drinking his guitar? Channeling Jimi Hendrix? Write a caption for it and the one judged the funniest will win a dinner for two at the HKJC’s upmarket venue Adrenaline. Send captions to info@fasttrack.hk.

Racing to win- and having FUN! How it works…/strong>
A tip: This can be a fun way to try and win BIG by pooling your resources with friends. The more choices, the bigger the outlay, so take the following as a guide: The Six Up goes from Race 3 to Race 8. If you and your friends pick two horses in each race- 2x2x2x2x2x2- this will cost the team HK$640 for a $10 ticket. Too expensive? Take the Six Up for $5, which will cost you HK$320. Or take it for even $2. The key is to have fun by winning with friends!
