The new way of looking at horse racing

THE HAPPY WEDNESDAY DAILY (EVEN THOUGH IT’S A WEEKLY)

GET READY FOR A HAPPY WEDNESDAY AT HAPPY VALLEY!

We want every Wednesday to be a Happy Wednesday, so every Wednesday we’ll be keeping you informed of what’s happening at the Hong Kong Jockey Club’s Happy Wednesday evenings at Happy Valley Racecourse- and the most fun you can have with your clothes on only a HK$10 entrance fee.

We’ll take you through the maze of activities, hopefully tip you a few winners, tip you where to go at Happy Valley and for what and why and provide some tips on what’s happening in the wide and wonderful world of entertainment- and which horse racing is part of and not some pastime for some old hardcore farts with a transistor radio to their ear and a toothpick n their mouth. Or worse, with toothpicks up their bums.

Nope, it’s 2012 and horse racing- at least in Hong Kong- has become a lot more of what it never was before: Cooler, fashionable, younger, far more inter-active and more fun.

Everything new when it comes to music, movies, technology, fashion and everything else that’s happening now, we’ll bring it to you right here. So, for now, have a Happy Wednesday and make it happier by backing a winner- the two or four legged kind.

OUR HAPPY WEDNESDAY THOUGHT FOR THE DAY.

OOH LA LA ! PARLEZ-VOUS LE HAPPY WEDNESDAY?

This is the last Wednesday for the Hong Kong Jockey Club’s French Promotion.

What does this actually mean and what’s in it for you? French baguettes, cheeses, French wines, ‘live’ music, pretty people- even the men- on-the-ground competitions, and, as an omen tip, probably the right time to back the only French jockey riding in Hong Kong at the moment- Olivier Doleuze.

Coming up soon: Music Rocks The Valley!

BE A HAPPY WEDNESDAY WINNER AT ADRENALINE

Very different to the open-air Beer Garden and Hong Kong’s newest place to network and also understand how to win and play the game of horse racing through the inter-active board known as I B U.

It’s something one can share with friends and IBU is like nothing you have ever seen in racing which helps you understand the sport and how it can be played.

Forget tipsters and “Inside news;” Work out your own winning formulas and compete with your friends or anyone willing to take you on.

There’s also ‘live’ music on one floor- the venue has two floors- and is for a more “dressed up” crowd compared to the casualness of the Beer Garden.

Cool attracts more Cool.

MADAM ZAZU’S PREDICTIONS FOR THE RACES TODAY.

After a few boring weeks without him, I see a Grand Elite-type of Zac Attack being launched like a rocket up a few bums in Races 2, 3 and 4 and, perhaps even Races 1 and 8.

I love nibbling on a Zac Attack. Don’t you? My friend, Daphne, also a fortune teller by night and bank teller by day, sees her girlfriend Nicole enjoying nibbling on her very own Zac Attack.

We don’t call her Naughty Nicole for nothing.

Meanwhile, Alvin “The Chipmunk” Ng might be seeing stars, but I keep seeing a blur whenever I see him in my crystal balls. I have lotsa balls.

In this race, a very bold mover might rush in and ruin the party for “The Chipmunk” and make him see stars in the process.

And perhaps most important of all, I see a number of French people at the races- men, women and a few trannies and grannies.

If you play your cards right, this Happy Wednesday could hold a few “voulez-vous coucher avec moi, c’est soi” surprises that will hurtle you into a very enjoyable Happy Thursday.

WHO AND WHAT’S IN RIGHT NOW

The movie “The Lone Ranger” starring Johnny Depp as Tonto and with music by Jack White. Directed by Gore Verbinski who worked with The Depp Man on “Rango” and “The Pirates Of The Caribbean,” Armie Hammers stars as the very gay-sounding masked man who rides a white horse named Silver through the Wild West with his Native American sidekick- Tonto.

Sounds like quite a trippy movie!

THE FAST TRACK ENTOURAGE’S TIPS FOR TONIGHT’S HAPPY WEDNESDAY @HAPPY VALLEY.

We’re all going in tonight ‘cos we wanna try some of the new venues like The Gallery and Adrenaline.

Of course, we’ll end up at the Beer Garden where it’s the last day of the Jockey Club’s French Promotion.

We’ll also be looking at getting off to a winning start and will cheer on Loyal Army- Number 6 in Race 1 and Happy Return- Number 7 in Race 2- which will be ridden by “The Zac Attack” Purton who we believe will beat Champion Jockey Douglas Whyte and take out tonight’s Jockey Challenge. He definitely looks like the jockey to follow.

We’ll buy this First Double meaning both horses must win their respective races and also banker each horse in a quinella roll up which means that each horse MUST come first OR second with any of the other choices. With this “bank” in place- we’re very confident- we’ll try our luck in a Six Up and where are choices from Races 3 to 8 MUST come first OR second.

If ALL our picks win each of the six races, we get the Six Up Bonus which could pay very well if a sneaky cold one squeaks in.

Here is our early suggestions for a Six Up.

RACE 3: 1-2-3-6-7

RACE 4: 5

RACE 5: 5

RACE 6: 1-3

RACE 7: 5

RACE 8: 1-3-5-6-10-12

TOTAL: $600 FOR SIX UP TICKET

…………………………………………

We’ll also take this “saver” and second Six Up

RACE 3: 6

RACE 4: 1-5

RACE 5: 5-11

RACE 6: 3-5

RACE 7: 2-4-5-10

RACE 8: 5-6

TOTAL: $320 FOR HALF A SIX UP TICKET

Good luck and have a Happy Wednesday!

HAVE A CHILLED HAPPY WEDNESDAY AT THE GALLERY

Located on the 3rd floor of the Public Stand, The Gallery is up-market, it has a great big bar and is the perfect place for a very affordable sit-down dinner and an area which offers you a brilliant view of the races.

WHERE TO HIT AFTER THE RACES HAVE BEEN RUN?

Okay, so, let’s say it’s 11pm and you’re wondering where to go and what’s open at this time.

From intensive and extensive research, there are always all those clubs down Jaffe Street in Wanchai or all those clubs which are exactly the same down Wyndham Street.

For a change of pace, we’d try three places all in a row down Lower Elgin Street- Sahara, the newly-opened WTF and Guru.

For the best Daquiris in town, there’s Feather Boa right up from Lower Elgin- but the people who frequent it- usually drunken old stewardesses and pilots- and their racist door policy turns us right off the place.

THE HAPPY WEDNESDAY RACING APP OF THE DAY

It’s new, it’s fun, it’s informative and it’s already a winner by being one of the most popular apps in Hong Kong.
