The new way of looking at horse racing

THE MAGIC MAN TAMES THE DURBAN DEMON‏

THE MAGIC MAN TAMES THE DURBAN DEMON‏

He’s been Hong Kong champion jockey for thirteen consecutive years and has been able to fend off the challenges of Brett Prebble and Zac Purton.

But this season, Douglas Whyte, known as The Durban Demon, has one of the most serious contenders to his reign in Brazilian ace Joao Moreira.

Dubbed ” The Magic Man” who before he was made an offer he couldn’t refuse to ride in Hong Kong, had his name etched in the history books by riding the winners all eight races at a meeting in Singapore.

Since recently moving to Hong Kong, Moreira- an extremely pleasant guy- has been riding for almost every trainer- and winning on horses that have failed for Whyte with rumors rife that he will be stable jockey for master trainer John Size – the biggest supporter of Whyte.

On this Saturday’s meeting, with Whyte suspended, Moreira takes over on one of the champion jockeys regular rides- the John Moore-trained Flagship Shine (R8 – #1) in the day’s feature event- the Class 1 Panasonic Cup.

It really won’t surprise us if the Brazilian weaves his magic and succeeds where Whyte, brilliant as he is, has failed.
