Can the popularity of a movie be an “exacting science”?

We were watching an E! Special on The Making Of “Hunger Games”- and these are real spoilers- and what we saw and heard was an extremely shrewd/commercial Director in Gary Ross.

We seriously took a dislike to the man as he almost seemed to be foaming at the mouth about all the popularity and Box Office boffo of his movie.


Listening to him, his kids had turned him onto the “Hunger Games” Trilogy by Suzanne Collins and “I just KNEW I had to make these come alive.”

Okay, perhaps we’re just jealous that he managed to make the movie and now has a firm hold on the “Hunger Games” franchise- and which like the Harry Potter and “Twilight” series has a character for every one of its followers. It’s a return to backing a new “team” by a new audience.


Yes, this is today’s Harry Potter and “Twilight” and Jennifer Lawrence is the new Kirsten Stewart.

And only a total idiot will not be able to recognize that this Actress is destined for great things.

However, with new popularity and power come great responsibility and the critics.





Though a big fan of Kristen Stewart, we’re unsure if she’ll ever accomplish what we thought she would when we first saw her in “The Panic Room” with Jodie Foster My, how she has blossomed.


But, Jennifer Lawrence aka “Katniss Everdeen”, is something else- beautiful, charismatic, athletic and, unlike “Bella”, ballsy- at least in the movie.

She’ll make bows and arrows popular. Wait and see: Forget guns, forget weapons of mass destruction. Bring on bows and arrows and watch out for the rise of “The Hunger Gamers”.



“The Hunger Games” has also has “happened” through a relentless- and very smart- social media marketing campaign.

Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, online games- they have all combined to create a need to MUST SEE this movie.

Yes, it sure looks like the marketing has left nothing to chance.


Hell, even the real-life District 12, the home of Katniss Everdeen, is up for sale.

Watch for a District 12 to pop up where you live. It has to happen.

Where will all this lead? Down the same path at Twilight until the young stars grow up and grow out of their roles.

Until then, enjoy the moment and fall in line with trends.
