With two of our favorite Egyptian brothers- Hero and the irrepressible Dodi, pictured below, who run the very popular Sahara bar and restaurant in Lower Elgin Street and the Moroccan restaurant Le Souk in Staunton Street, about to open the Nile in Hollywood Road where The Wheel once turned, that small area in Central is fast-becoming Hong Kong’s Little Middle East.
Opposite to where The Nile will open is Lebanese restaurant Marouche, opposite to Marouche there’s The Kebab House, right next to it is Babu, another kebab house recently started by our old friend Mr Sharma, below, and which has taken much of its neighbor’s customers, while right across the road and next to where The Nile will open is Ebeneezer’s the first kebab restaurant in the area, and which, these days, is an empty shell of what it used to be.
A short walk away and around Lyndhurst Terrace are a number of other Lebanese bars and restaurants and with the future of all these businesses being about what, where and why will be the winner in the survival of the fittest and the most financially solvent on a long-term basis.
