Sunday is when those gates crash open and the new racing season starts up at Shatin with Wednesday becoming a Happy Wednesday again at Happy Valley Racecourse where, for a $10 entrance fee, there’s the chance to have the most fun with your clothes on.
Of course, there are those who try to prove this wrong, but blame that on the heat of the moment and a need to let it all hang out.
If Happy Wednesday were an actor, who would he be?
Some say, Johnny Depp as Captain Jack Sparrow- eccentric, erratic, quite mad and damn good fun.

Others say, a Happy Wednesday is an actress and she is Amber Heard who has a very open approach to life and how to live it by her own rules.

Who really knows?
Happy Wednesday is whatever you want it to be as with any occasion and any venue- and Happy Valley Racecourse offer any number of different venues other than that playground in the open air that is the Beer Garden- it’s all about the people.

Babs Streisand would break into song about how, “People needing people are the luckiest people in the world” if she ever made it to an HKJC Happy Wednesday.

On this coming Wednesday, we see Ben Semmens back again from Wales with the singer-songwriter set to join up with some of the best musicians playing in Hong Kong.
There might not be Jun Kung, but there’ll be enough musical talent onstage to make a watermelon implode- a real band as opposed to any solo Hello Kitty cuteness to a backing track or old school Hong Kongers playing Crossroads on remote control.
Yes, no musical robots allowed. We have enough robots to deal with in our daily lives.

So, what would Happy Wednesday be if a song?
Hmmm, to us, it would be one part Walking On Sunshine by Katrina And The Waves though it’s all about those Happy Wednesday nights.
Who knows, perhaps the sun will come out to join the party?
There must also be time for a Moondance with Van Morrison singing, and the best song written about Shiny Happy People.

As every Happy Wednesday Night is about winners being grinners- and there is enough beer, wine and food around to at least make everyone goofy grinners.

Take in the races and follow whoever and whatever appeals to you at a track that brings the main attractions- the riders and the horses- up close and personal and right to your doorstep. Or at least to the front of the Beer Garden.

For those who wouldn’t know a quinella from quintuplets or a win place and quinella place from any other place in Hong Kong, take in Adrenaline on the course and at the second floor.

What? Never been to Adrenaline? Don’t know about Adrenaline, the home of IBU? Wouldn’t know IBU from UB40 singing Red Red Wine?

Make up for lost time this Wednesday and have a close encounter with IBU, the world’s first inter-active racing “Mothership”, which has all the answers needed to get you on the winning track.

As we have said, how to enjoy a Happy Wednesday Night is up to you. There’s food, beer, racing, people and Vive Le Difference venues to suit all tastes.
Think of it as a weekly carnival with magic in the air and a different type of magic happening on the race track.
Have some of that magic rub off on you along with some magical good luck.
