THE FAST TRACKER AND GOING OUT WITH A BANG!
Douglas Whyte returns from a three day suspension and as he’s paid the $60,000 to ride at this last meeting, it doesn’t take an Einstein to figure out why: To ride and retain the ride on the John Size-trained Luger- a galloper with loads of potential.
As predicted by the local conspiracy theorists, Luger, which will start at around $1.80, has drawn barrier 13 over the 1200m- proof, say those who must dream about barrier draws, that if the handicaps don’t try and peg back a favorite, the barriers will. And though Luger should win, things have not exactly been made easy for Whyte’s fine motor skills.
Still with Whyte, today’s the day when Zac Purton will be crowned Champion Jockey- and no one can begrudge him this as he has ridden more consistently and better than anyone else- and can beat Whyte’s record of riding 114 winners in a season.
With 111 winners on the board, the Aussie should break the record having winning chances in Magical Beam, Jolly Good Star, Domineer and Gun Pit.
One last word on Zac: His interview on Racing To Win by The Three Amigos was interesting, candid, and his respect, especially for the Champion he has managed to dethrone- Whyte- was extremely gracious- along with his compliments to fierce competitor Joao Moreira, was that of a real champ talking.
Well done, bud.

Andrash Schutz, below, backs up his Sugar after a disappointing run as favorite last week when ridden by Joao Moreira.
Karis Teetan takes over this time, and with Schutz needing one more winner to meet his quota of 16 winners, Sugar is entered over 1200m- but drawn a ball-busting barrier 14 in a VERY tough race.
R8 LUGER
There are those who are not surprised that this hotpot is drawn the car park- its main dangers have not fared any better- Victory Master (14), Sea Diamond (11)- but Luger should be much too good and will win this.
*R9 LANG TAI SING(1)BULLISH SMART(3) SUN PINS(7) MARVEL TRIBE(4)
Talk about the luck of the draw! With barrier 13 in the previous race for Luger, this time, Douglas Whyte has barrier 1 for Lang Tai Sing, which should go very close to winning this.
R10 GUN PIT (1) WHAT YOU DREAM(3) ALPINEFIELD(5) FANTASTIC KAKA(6)
The race that might be what has a marked bearing on the Trainers Premiership if The Zac Attack can shoot Gun Pit past the winning post again for Caspar Fownes.
*R11 REWARDING HERO(3) WONDERFUL MOMENTS(14) HELENE SUPER STAR (13) TRAVEL BROTHER (10)
The last race of the season is always a fascinating spectacle as everyone wants to win it with those looking to have the best chances being Tommy Berry on John Moore’s Rewarding Hero and, for almost a fairy tale ending to the season, Joao Moreira winning on Wonderful Moments for John Size.
With the last race run, Billy Nader, the HKJC’s Executive Director of Racing, the hardest working man in horse racing, will do what he does best: Launch another fireworks display. Some guys have all the fun.
