THE GREAT TIPSTERS TWEETER FEUD
——————————————————
THE FAST TRACKER BIDS ADIEU TO THIS SEASON’S LAST WEDNESDAY NIGHT MEETING.
It seems a longer season than it’s been, and, apart from tired horses, there seem to be some equally pooped trainers and jockeys hanging in there for the next few meetings with some already firming up plans for next season.
On Sunday, the result of the much-touted Triple Trio Bonanza Jackpot was pretty much a fizzle- average races and a payout not as a big as expected- and a track where one had to lead to win which is what Matthew Chadwick had the smarts to while many others played daft waiting games and racked up his four winners.
Apart from having to get stuck into his Peniaphobia, the other three wins were catch me if you can jobs- great for the jockey, boring to watch, especially if not having backed him.
As for tonight, it’s a very tough looking card with no jockey having a stronger book of rides than the others.
Dougie Whyte is suspended and will only return on the last day of the season, no doubt to just ride Luger.
The Zac Attack who has been riding better than any other jockey all season- and this consistency has been repaid- whereas the bubble seems to have burst with Magic Moreira.
Either the magic has- poof- disappeared- or he’s just going around for the sake of it while it’s well-known that though Tommy Berry is being the thorough professional that he is, after the year he’s had, he can’t wait to return home to his family.
On a more positive note, apart from the success of Karis Teetan and those who haven’t seen him ride before, now understanding why Hugh Bowman, pictured winning on Kai Ying Kid on Sunday, is one of the best jockeys in Australia.
His strike rate during the few months he’s been in Hong Kong has been excellent.
Let’s also not forget the performances this season of Neil Callan- very much underrated and often overlooked performances- whereas we have seen a rejuvenated Brett Prebble remind us of what a damn good jockey he can be when his confidence is at a high.
R1 GOOD TIMES ROLL/GOLD PRECIOUS/SLEDGE HAMMER/DIAMOND START
Lady GaiGai is in town and Tommy Berry is sure to be going all out to impress his boss and keep Caspar Fownes in the running for the Trainers Premiership with a win on Good Times Roll.
R2 RISING POWER
Olivier Doleuze really makes his rivals eat dirt in these all-weather races and should be powering over the top of them here.
R3 MEDIC KINGDOM/EL GRANDE/APOLLO CAVALIER/MONEY CAFE
Gawd knows. Use a pin.
R4 WIN ALONG/GLORIOUS RYDER/OYSTER
Apart from Zac Purton and Hugh Bowman, no one’s riding better than Brett Prebble, and though up a class he should win again on Win Along.
R5 IMPERIAL CONCORDE
A number of chances, but Sean Woods will be on his knees praying Tommy Berry can win on this as he still needs a few more winners to have his trainer’s license renewed.
R6 CLEVER BEAVER/DOMINEER/GETAWAY GUY
The last time Domineer ran- it was at Happy Valley, on the turf and was the raging favorite with Zac Purton aboard- I was sitting with Dougie Whyte who was serving out another suspension and who told me he didn’t think the horse would run a place ‘cos of something like a “second up syndrome” despite a facile win at its start before.
I didn’t listen and Domineer ran like Bumineer.
Tonight, Prebble is on it and not Purton, it tackles the all-weather track on which it has worked well and the tipsters are, again, tipping it.
I’d love to share their confidence, but, alas, I can’t. I’ll include it in my Triple Trio and Six Up bets, but I’d rather look elsewhere for a winner and have always had a soft spot for a Clever Beaver.
R7 RHUMBA KING/I’M IN CHARGE
Rhumba King is one of my favorite all-weather horses- if there is such an animal- and seeing that Zac Purton has jumped on it gives me even more confidence that it’s ready to put its best hoof forward.
Meanwhile, Caspar Fownes utilizes Dickie Lui’s seven pound allowance on I’m In Charge which will certainly go very close and might even lead to a Rhumba King’s in charge quinella.
R8 GUN PIT
Tommy Berry got Gun Pit home when Zac Purton was suspended who now gets back on his regular ride and really should take this out for Caspar Fownes who looks hell-bent on winning this season’s trainer premiership.
